Yummy

Really though, it's the simple words that just get mispelled all the time. Maybe you're right Phil, some sort of conspiracy.

In general, or on the Internet?

I really hate when people post in aol-speak or leet-speak or whatever the hell it's called, and can't form a sentence or paragraph. Sorry, I'm not going to take you very seriously if you type like a 12 year old girl.

You mean t3h l337?

I also hate when somebody writes an entire essay with only one period. That is annoying.

It's too bad too, because spelling seems to becoming less and less important as the interweb continues to grow with kiddies.

Blame that fucking spell check.

America would be lost without spell check.

Spel chek is Y I spel so bad.

Seriously though, one time my Outlook's spell check got disabled, and I spent a few days sending emails to clients w/o spell check. It was pretty bad. It's such a crutch these days.

Spell check doesn't help anything if you're not willing to learn from your mistakes. If you are though it's a good tool, as is the dictionary.

On that note, does anyone else find that people have absolutely no idea when to use your, you're, its and it's. I find it extremely irritating.

I resemble that remark. And I did go to school (college too).

Truth: for me it’s a combination of dyslexia and phonics in third grade. I tend to spell things like they sound, which in our convoluted English language doesn’t work a lot of the time... Or maybe I’m just dumb. :?

Over the years I have learned that there are a lot of things I’m quite good at and spelling is not one of them, looking at the big picture I can live with that.

Dictionary?

Are you serious, Hardy?

People don't pick those things up anymore unless under duress! We've got spellcheck, and sometimes stupider correspondants, so even if it IS spelled correctly, no one would notice.

I agree with you, though. For so many, it's not a struggle to remember how words should look in front of us, so it's hard to comprehend the even more people who know what they want to say, but aren't too concerned with semantics. Personally, I think proper spelling is paramount; it says you not only know what you're saying/talking about, but it makes you look more intelligent overall, and says that you 'care'. I'm a little more lax on proper grammar, due to idiosyncratic speech patterns exhibited by some of the more eccentric online personalities I've met.

I think there, their, and they're get confused more. We can throw apostrophe usage into the mix as well. That's something I'm a stickler for since I had it beat into my head during comp class in high school.

I'll agree that spell check is a good tool, but you shouldn't be dependent on it. When I'm writing, I can usually tell whether a word is spelled incorrectly, but if it's something I'm not familiar with, I'll have to check the spell checker.

Yeah, I can live with bad grammar. Well, that depends on how bad it is. I will admit the English language is hard, and I know I don't have full mastery of it. It's not the big words that bother me. If you can't spell congressionalism I don't care. But when you can't spell you're I do care. It angers me to no end.

lol.

I totally agree with this. If someone offers me advice, and spells their reply wrong, I'll likely have a complete disregard for their opinion.

What irritates me more than bad spelling is lackage of punctuation. If someone writes a 5-6 line long post, and uses little to no punctuation, or paragraphs when necessary, it's gotten to the point where i just pretend that they didn't even post, and read on. Improper punctuation and paragraph usage make it impossible for me to put their sentences into separate thoughts, thus making it impossible for me to see if they're spelling incorrectly.

oops
