If you race a lady, are you supposed to let her win?

This is for non-Subaru related topics. Keep it realistic please.

If you race a lady, are you supposed to let her win?

Post by skid542 »

Forewarning, this is a relative useless story about having a little fun, so if you have important things to do, 'back' button is up top :). And please, no racing lectures, I'm well aware of the laws and that nobody was on the streets or sidewalks.

So I'm coming back from getting groceries this evening, approx. 12:15, and end up sitting at the stop light behind this newish yellow Lancer with a 'OZ Rally Edition' tag on the back. It was just both of us sitting at the light to make the left, both in the right hand turn lane to turn left - make sense? Now I know I have no true hope against this car but I decide what the hell, let him show me up. Light goes green and they start going, not slow but not racing, I follow and turn sharper so that I'm now in the lefthand lane and they are in the right, they seem to realize what's going at this point. We both take off and they ease up a little around 50 where I catch up (wasn't that far behind) and get beside them, glance over, and it's these two pretty girls. Boyah, right?

Well she, the driver, sees me and she takes off again and so do I. We get to the top of the hill and slow down for a light and I hear her hollar a 'yeah lets go' hollar, you know, a cheer type thing, as I'm coming up and starting to pass her because she's slowly rolling up the light. The light just then goes green and we're starting to accelerate again. She's coming up on a car so I flash my brights to signal it's cool for her to shoot over in my lane, she does, we keep going (we're well over the 'reckless' limit but under 65), she gets around the car and moves back over and slows down. We trade places again and I'm infront, I lay it down and take a sweeping turn a little hard, back over in the righthand lane to make the right at the light, she's not far behind. She'd waited for me to get ahead a little and then came flying up. As I'm approaching the light I double tap my brakes for her as a sign of lets keep going, then lay into my brakes, stop, as she stops right behind me. Then I make the right and let her pull out behind and I'm not going too fast as for her to move over to the left lane, which she does and then proceeds to take off, and so do I. The next light is coming up and we do a little criss-cross in lane positions and are coming up to the light where I'm turning off to go home. I kept the hammer down a little longer than her to beat her to the light and as I'm sitting there and she's coming up and I'm thinking to myself, 'Damn, this chic's pretty cool, this has been a fun little outing'. I roll my passenger window down since it looks like we'll be beside each and I just wanted to say 'nice car, that was fun'

What do I hear through the window as she rolls by without stopping (I was behind a van and she was behind a compact car) ... another yell of excitement? No. Instead I hear this winny/bitchy voice, 'what's this guy think he's doing?' WTF? Did I not show proper race etiquette? Should I have not shot past her to get to the light? I am going to assume it was the passenger with the winny voice and that the driver is still a cool lady as I see that car around here and there.

I haven't contributed to the ashtray forum for a little bit ... hope you enjoyed the tale.

P.S. Sorry I can't attend the shootout and get spanked properly by people who know how to do it and have fun.

Wait, your '93 NA FWD could take on a lancer oz edition? Well, hell. Good Story :D.

My 90 5MT FWD wagon beat (2) newer (non GT) stangs and a co-workers BMW.

There is nothing more satisfying than looking in your rearview to see a stang owner pounding on the steering wheel knowing he got beat by a 15 year old station wagon.

I had the turbo button on. (Had the A/C off)

The BMW owner was amazed that I was able to light the tires up...

(True story. I stake my sedans freshly rebuilt 4EAT on it)

OZ Lancers are slow. Probably just a female version of the typical ricer that can't face it when their car sucks.

I'm in agreement with Laurel and I didn't realize the OZ Lancers weren't that fast, thanks Steve.

Subawhat - Glad to see yet another NA FWD representing on the streets :). It's all about knowing your car.

Well, if the OZ lancers suck, I wonder how I'd do against an Integra...

You'll fair fairly well but you won't win. A friend's friend came into town one night last semester and we all got to talking and one thing led to another and we went out to formally race. He had a 90 Integra that he'd kept well. I could take him off the launch up until about 4-5k in first at which he was now beside me and once he got infront he stayed there. Had I not had a passenger and pushed the engine a little hard I could have kept closer but he's still got a smaller car with 'about' the same engine specs. From a rolling start he definately had me. That was all the racing we did. However if I were to speculate, in the turns it's hard to say, probably him. On the gravel, I'd eat him. On the track, I don't know, I have superior brakes but not the acceleration he does.

The OZ would have taken me at highway speeds I'd guess but the NA's can throw down some torque down low.

Edit : Yeah, auto's are slow, the one I raced was a manual.

I've taken a gsr integra 3 times to 80. I would get about 3 car lengths on every launch. Pretty funny.

I've met 2 (two!) girls with o.z. lancers that think they have evos. I couldn't find it in myself to correct them, i guess nobody else could either.

HEH. girl wants to race?

put her in her place if you can, otherwise take the beating. nobody should be "letting" anybody win unless the race gets unsafe for conditions

I always thought the OZ pakage was strictly for looks. Was there any modding done?

I had a 94 auto teggy (non-vtec) and she did ok against other cars in her class.

I would take a MT over an AT any day. My 90 MT wagon pulls something fierce and it feels great. Then I get behind the wheel of my 93 AT sedan and it's hell. I wish I had the time and energy to do the 5MT swap into my sedan. It would probalby be better for me to just find and buy a 5MT sedan.

It is for looks, and not good looks. Those god-awful 14" wheels make those cars look even more disproportionate then they really are.

It didn't have 14" wheels but that's as much as I know about whether or not it was modded. It had a rather large exhaust, kinda like a rice can but not quite. That big spoiler on the back gotta count for something though right.... :).

oz edition is NOT fast, a friend had a 2002 with a few upgrades like intake/exhaust, but his car had nothing on my legacy turbo, the oz is only like 120 horses and pretty much just visual upgrades

Are you looking to get some? in my dads words "Be nice to the lady, and she will be nice to you"

Not looking to get some? Equal treatment.

There is something to be said about being coureous. but I dont show extra based on sex (thats sexism dont ya know).
