Yet another flywheel question...

Post by Tleg93 »

I searched around the BBS for information on this topic and what I found was helpful but I still had a couple questions so I started a new thread. I have a Legacy L so factor that in if you want to respond. I've kept modding to a minimum, only changing things that needed fixed anyway, due to the nature of the car. Anyway, my clutch is pretty much gone so I'm looking at lightweight flywheels and clutches. I don't want to do anything real crazy but a new flywheel may be in order. My questions are this: Is it worth getting a lightened flywheel for my car? The info I've read doesn't go into a whole lot of detail about the mod. What can I expect in terms of acceleration? My understanding is that in the lower gears I could expect to notice a difference. Some sites say that it adds as much as 40 hp due to the reduced drag on the crank. Is this true or just hype. Any responses will be appreciated providing they're not very mean spirited.

Thanks

look up the exceedy flywheel posts. Brat4by4 did this and said he hasn't noticed any negatives. It is the same flywheel that the sti's are using. Now, he does drive a turbo, so you'll have to see if they have them for the non-turbos but I'd imagine they do.

I see, well it's good to understand this a little better now. I'm not sure where I read about the HP gain but I guess it isn't true. It's possible I misread or misunderstood.

If your car is pushing 1200 horse. I'm sure that there is at least 40 more to be found when lightening the flywheel. It's a percentage sort of deal.

I am sorry, the flywheel is a good investment even for a shabby L like you have. Being serious though I wouldn't rectumend buying one unless you have money to burn. Save your dough and buy a turbo vehicle. You should be able to get a flywheel at your local dealer used. I would only replace it if you absoulutely need to. I was only joking about your L. I had one once and it was pretty dependable and had some speed to it, enough to climb most hills well enough anyway. I never had to drop a dime on anything but tires and oil changes.

You are so funny buddy. Have you ever condsidered being a comode-ian. It's great that you have a pseudo sports car and all but how will it stack up against a mitsubishi GT 3000 vr4 awd twin turbo. Never mind cuz I know how.
