We saw the new '06 WRX wagon and '06 sti. All I can say is the new front end looks waaaay better in person and I fell in love with the '06 wrx wagon. It has the 2.5 power plant now with the VVT and a bumped up 230 hp and 235 trq. It also comes stock with some pretty nice 17"s, vented rear brakes and Subaru 4 pots up front! The new seats are uber pimp. Very comfy and the colors are more neutral, which is nice. I love the car.
On the way back after the preparty we were racing against some of my friends with WRXs. I pulled on an '04 wrx sedan w/4eat (light mods) and we ran it from 55 mph up to about 125 mph. Pretty fun. My buddy Dan and I went at it next, '02 WRX sedan w/5mt (light mods) and I could pull on him until about 5300 rpm and then he'd catch and then pull away from me. It was very obvious that our SOHC heads hurt us.
We went back to my house about 9:30 pm and shortly after Phil showed up. Let the wrenching begin! We installed a WRX TMIC on my car which was a bit of a bitch. We worked on it until 3:30 am, went to bed at 4 am, got back up at 7:30 am, finished the install at 10 am and hauled ass for the shootout (I didn't get a chance to pull my cat either but oh well). We didn't get very far before I blew an i/c hose, so we stopped to pick up a new one at the parts store and I limped, off boost, down to BSD.
I was also having idle issues and stumbling stalling issues.

They almost cancelled the Shootout because of low turn out before we even got there but luckily a guy from Ohio showed up and threw a fit, so they went ahead with the show. More people showed up about the time we did and we had about 15-20 cars. Very low turn out but this year was kind of a bust anyways with next year being the HUGE event. Thankfully they let everyone run for free though, so that was super cool.
Once there I burned the shit out of my finger trying to fix my car. Had to wait a bit longer for it to cool down and then finally got it fixed. I got the gnarliest fuckin blister you ever saw. It was nasty.
During this time Vikash dropped his mid-pipe and so he was running straight off the DP. Holy shit it was loud!

Phil ran out and put down a 15.19 @ 10 psi straight away but unfortunately that was the best time put down by a SS all day. I was running 15.3's @ 16 psi and not understanding why. Vikash was putting down mid 15's @ 16 psi too. Hmmm. WTF?
I got to drive Vikash car while he monitored his reading and without launch control I put down a 15.3 but that was as good as I could get. His car was sooooo fun to drive though. It rumbled. It really felt as if you were driving a race car and it was wicked loud. He also had the sick ass AWIC setup with an entire igloo cooler full of ice water! It was sick.
Phil drove V's car a bit too with L-C but I think his best was about the same as me IIRC.
Phil upped his boost to go for the gusto but fuel cut plagued him and his 16 psi runs were much slower then his 10 psi runs. Arghhh.
Fastest car was an STI from Ohio. He ran an 11.14 @ like 139 mph! Phil from Element Tuning was there too and put down a best of like 11.7.
Sam (rallysam) showed up right as things wrapped up so unfortunately he didn't get to run but he came with us back up to the "port" for Mongolian bbq. Vikash and I ate so much Sushi, mmmmm, damn good. Sam decided to stay the night which was waay cool because it gave us a chance to get to know him and he's a really cool guy. We pretty much just hung out and bullshitted Saturday night and ended the night with a Rally Mexico viewing.
We woke up Sunday and licked our wounds (me literally) for a while and then finally went off to Dennys for breakfast. It took for ever because of the Little League-ers. Went back to my place and we did a bit more wrenching. Fixed my idling and stumbling issues and installed my new drivers seat. Phil tried out runnign without power steering but that didn't work out too well. He did replace his alt-ps belt.
We had a short intermission while Vikash tried to hammer out some cell phone issues and we bid Sam a sad fairwell as he had to head back to Baltimore.
Phil, V and I then went for the most badass backroads cruise EV3r!!1! We had soooo much fun tearing up the hills north of the port. THe gravel section I had found turned out to be the highlight of the cruise. All 3 of us were hanging it out big time. I even pulled off a couple scandinavian flicks that I was pretty tickled about.

We did a lot of tarmac too, including the Rosevalley hill climb, and that was super fun. Going down was more fun then coming up though.
I had all 4 wheels off the ground on two occasions during our tarmac adventures. Once on purpose and once quite by accident.

Phil and Vikash have way better suspension then me but I tried to make up for it with pure determination. They had a way of sneaking up on me in the turn though. I just couldn't carry the same speed in the turns nearly as easily as them. I really need to get my GR2's in.
I actually had more fun on the cruise then at the Shootout pretty much and I think I might host another meet sometime this fall that completely revolves around running the backroads around my house. They have to be among some of the best anywhere.
We finally ended up back at my house around 7:30 pm Sunday and Phil and V headed back to the greater DC area.
Thanks to everyone that came and next year will be even better!
P.S. I didn't get nearly the amount of pictures or video I was hoping for (I was elbow deep in oil and grease most of the time) but the little bit I did get will be up soon.
