28 MPG!?

Post by Manarius »

4.313 Gallons; 120 miles.

120 / 4.313 = 27.9

Granted, that was not from empty..but 28 MPG!? On a 4EAT? Come on. I wonder why gas mileage gets worse the farther down the tank you go. I usually get 21. Not 28.

Are you filling it till you can't fill it any more, running it, then filling to the same spot again? I get around 26 on the highway when I'm not boosting or accelerating real hard.

I used to get around 31-32 if I wasn't running it too hard. Now I get around 25 but hopefully that'll go back up with the 'new' engine. 21 sounds pretty low to me, esspecially for an NA.

Because my gas gauge doesn't work, I run to about 200-250 miles and then fill up. I consistently get 20-22 mpg. And, I don't drive like a maniac all the time...I hardly drive above 3 grand.

I get 24-26MPG on average, usually 375 miles or more on a 16 gallon tank.

Granted, this is on an NA car with mods, but it is heavier than any 1G Legacy model. Hopefully the Random High-Flow Cat will make it more fuel efficient, powerful and noisy!

You got 31...in a legacy? Wow, I don't think I've ever heard of mileage that good in one of these cars. 21-3 mpg (driving hard to moderate) is what I've gotten in every legacy I've owned. Maybe I've gotten unlucky.

I usually get around 19. Hopefully this turbo setup will increase my mileage a little

A less restrictive exhaust housing could improve volumetric efficiency, which should also improve thermal efficiency.

You don't have to be on boost all the time, but you'll be making more power right? So won't you fundementally be using more fuel? If you're changing engine management I could see you theoretically being able to get better mileage in some situations though.

That's not necessarily how it works, Hardy. An engine capable of more power isn't always an engine burning more fuel.

I mean, any car makes less power when it's up in the mountains than when it's down at sea level, but it also has worse fuel economy.

It's unlikely that I'll be making more power down low. And I've actually considered setting one of the boost levels at like 5 PSi for cruising around town.

What turbo are you going to use?

Almost any upgrade turbo should make more power off-boost than the stock turbo.

Yeah, the TD05H-16G will definitely give you more power off boost. I personally haven't seen an increase in fuel economy because I'm on high boost all the freakin' time, but I do believe Phil and maybe Matt saw mileage improve with the 16G when they drive carefully.
