Subaru + Standing Water =

Post by Manarius »

Totally Awesome!

Now, I'm not advocating you drive through big pools of standing water because simply, you don't know what's in the pool. However, if you must drive through a pool, know you can go through with confidence!

Where did this random idea come from?

Well, I was driving home from a friend's house and it was raining very hard. I came to the normal way I go home, and the road was covered with water (I wasn't so sure how deep it was...I thought it was about 4 in.) Note: This pool was in the middle of a small town at an intersection, my speed was low.

So, I was getting ready to make the turn, and I entered this large pool. It was a lot deeper than I thought! I'm thinking it was about 6-8 in. in depth. I could feel the water on the bottom of the floor as I drove through it (that is, outside the car). I passed through the watery area without even sputtering.

I will mention again, don't drive your car through water that you don't know how deep it is. However, if you must, know your Legacy will go through without problem.

To the headlight tops in the Legacy and the old GLs. Only problem was water got into the rack boots on the Legacy and killed the rack a year later. So watch for that. Can't do it anymore as my intake is now too low.

I got up to about that deep once in my XT. There's an area in Orlando near downtown with very poor drainage (actually there are places like that all over town  ), and after a real heavy downpour, I got brave. I put ol Ginger in 4WD and just went for it in 1st gear. I felt kinda bad as I drove right by some woman pushing her stalled Hyundai out of the water, because I must have drenched her with my wake

I'm not quite sure what the noise is in the XT's front end right now, but it actually could possible be a wheel bearing :!: and for all I know, I could have washed the bearing grease out with the water. Not one single electrical problem though. I was fearing that water would get in my distributor, but nope.
