It happened to me...

Post by BAC5.2 »

You always think, it'll never happen to me.

Well, last night, between 6PM and 10:30AM, my car was vandalized.

Someone broke into it, stole my radio and my backpack. They tried to steal the car too.

What an awful feeling. I feel very violated. They are just posessions (expensive ones, and a major pain in the ass to replace), but the feeling of being stolen from is painful. I wanted to cry. It's just stuff... But it was MY stuff. It was MY life they have effected. It was MY day they wasted. It was MY time and effort, that until last night, I had something to show for it. Now, all I have is a hole in my center console and some cut wires.

The total damages were about $1200. I'm not sure how much of that the insurance company will actually cover.

All of my school books, all of my homework, all of my notes were all in my backpack. I have two papers due on Thursday, and I have no syllabus or anything that has any specifics of the papers, or the classes anymore. I have no e-mails of the professors, nothing.

I've been really fed up with this car lately. It was as if it was a losing battle. Now, this is yet another card in the hand of parting it out and getting rid of it. I don't WANT it to come to that, but it's unfortunately becoming an option.

What a horrible feeling.

Dickheads.

$1200?? That's what you're out? I've been fortunate to never have that happen to me, so I dunno how stuff like this works, but I'd go so far as to make the police get some forensic shit going. That's a lot of dough.

You don't have class with the professors until Thursday? I'm sure they'd give you a little leeway if they knew this is what happened.

Sorry to hear it Phil.

I hope they catch those fucking bastards. There isn't anything in this world I hate more than stealing. Fucking pisses me off.

It was in DC. They aren't going to trouble themselves with a petty theft. It was a $700 radio (retail, when I bought it), $400 in books, and a $130 backpack. I wouldn't care so much, if they had left the stuff that was in the backpack. At LEAST my papers and shit. I wouldn't give a shit if they had left that stuff. But now, I'm inconvenienced further. As if I wasn't busting my ass in school already, now I've gotta work triple time (AGAIN!) to get back on top of it. I already had to make up the first 2 weeks of assignments in one day for English (late registration), now I have 2 - 6 page papers to rewrite.

I have all of my classes on Tuesday, so I can talk to my professors then.

I'm filing a police report in a few minutes, and I'll have a copy of that. The claims adjuster hasn't called yet, so I don't know how much of this will be reimubrsed.

I can't believe it would have happened to me. I just can't believe it. What kind of world is this? A backpack? Christ, it was a $130 backpack. There wasn't anything valuable in it, other than the things that were valuable to me.

Damn Phil, that sucks and I'm sorry to hear it. There are few things in this world I would truly shoot a person over, fucking my car is one of them. And as you and others have said, they were genuine assholes taking your books and stuff. Karma man, stealing shit is one thing, but intentionally bending someone over the table by stealing worthless stuff (to them atleast) is a different thing altogether. I would also like to think that your professors should understand, esspecially if any of them have been robbed. But damn.

And try to hang on with the car. That feeling of a loosing battle is a bitch but at least you still have the car and all the major components, you know she's worth hanging on to as long as possible/practical.

I feel your pian brother. I've been broken into a few times and had my car stolen once.

IT is a gut wrenching feeling. Kinda leaves you hollow inside. Go ahead and cry if you feel it. Nobody is going to judge you if you do. We have all lost something/someone we loved very much.

Dude! That sucks. I know what you mean. Until it happens to you, you just think it's like no big deal, like you're out some money but insurance covers it. But, when it actually happens to you, you realize it's worse then that. It gets you emotionally.... like you feel violated.

You won't believe it, but after I called you yesterday our luck was just as bad! My car made it home ok, but when we got home my buddy found that his motorcycle had been stolen! This in front of his apartment in the Bethesda subrubs!!! assholes

man Phil that's lame as hell of people they don't deserve to be shot, the just deserve to be emotionally and physically beaten

you've put a ton of work into that car for this to dishearten you, it's the poster child of the East Coast T-Legs

the college stuff really sucks but hopefully your profs will understand

I had my cell phone and a bunch of CDs stolen out of my car in Lewisburg of all places! I didn't even bother to report it, you knew it was a local because my phone was broken and there were but 1 or 2 cds on the holder that were not burnt. Morons.

My 93 was broken into at the Subaru Dealer when I had it in for work a couple years ago. They poped my PS door handle out and got into everything. I had a funny feeling it was an inside job, too.

Items stolen:
Sony Mobile ES amp
2 blown Kicker comp VR's
Mag Lite (6 D cell)
Million CP searchlight
Radio and changer remotes
Box full of empty CD cases
Leather driving gloves
Broke my radio and left it in the dash

They didn't bother my $400 CB/HAM radio on the passenger seat. My CD binder was still between the seats.

How do I know it was an inside job? The car was parked in a camera blind spot with enough room behind the car to get all the stuff out. The decetive talked to the manager of the place more than me. That, and I've seen, heard, and saw those kinds of things happen when friends and myself worked at dealerships. Happens all the time, especially on trade-ins. That's why I only go to ma' and pa' places when I'm too busy to do it myself.

Bottom line - Dealershop=Stealership. Never trust a lottie. Never leave your car there overnight. And don't eat yellow snow.

Richard, if it was an inside job at the dealer, why didn't they just get the keys for it? ;)

What's been going on with your car that's got you annoyed? It can be a struggle sometimes. If you do part it out, think of me when it comes to 5mt.

Edit: It sucks to have your stuff stolen. I wish ill on those who robbed you.

Then it would REALLY look like an inside job. If I worked at a dealership and saw some goodies, wouldn't I want to kife the stuff in a fashion that would'nt put the heat on me? Whoever did it probably came back after hours and jacked my stuff. It could have someone out of the blue, but all the indicators were there.

I remember a GMC van that came in on a trade that had an Alpine deck in it. The lottie who parked it told us the passenger side window was cracked open and the radio was up for grabs. We stopped by no more than 15 minutes later and it was already jacked.

man, that blows. had some fuckers attempt to steal my radio, they broke the damn faceplate off with a screwdriver and ruined it, left it on the passenger seat. ruined the bezel too.
maybe you can look on your schools website and find which prof teaches your section? then you can find their email/phone # from the school directory.

Man, I'm sorry Phil. Just out of curiosity, did you have an alarm, and if so, did you have some sort of blinky light/sticker or something to alert theives that you are "protected"?

that does suck for sure

did you look in the nearest dumpster / trash cans ? they often rifle the possessions for cash (purses, wallets, packs, etc) then throw them into the nearest recepticle to avoid being caught with anything that can link up. I found my gf's purse remains that way last year, after an hour of looking in dumpsters.

Often such petty thieves are on foot so the goods are discarded very close at hand

also post in the area, you may get a call about the pack

my gf's thief stole her phone, and I called the numbers he called off the phone (idiot), found out several friend's names and the thief's nick-name and school, and STILL the cops did nothing. I did tell his friends that the cops would be waiting for him on Monday morning at school, so hopefully he crapped his pants anyway.
That beer you are drinking cost more than my car

My condolences bro. I know the empty hollow feeling of robery. Some one tried to brake into my house about a month ago, they did not know that I was home and I scared them off with a sword, yea a sword. Anyways they open up my wagon and take my cd's over 100 in the wagon. IT sucks totally. Fortuneately for me, they were complete idiots and felt guilty and left the cd case on the porch in the pouring rain. So all we were out was having to buy a new door, which we already had an extra one so no biggie, I guess. Hopefully this person who f'd with you will show some remorse and bring your stuff back also. Total bummer Phil. If you want I can go back to my life as an asassin and take care of them for ya. ;)
but really I can.

Oh No, Phil!

That's terrible, my friend. I myself did the good deed of scaring off some would-be theives trying to break into a poor little saturn outside my salon. (yes, I go to a salon. ) Unfortunately, they ran after I pulled on 'em, and I was left with the cops and a brandishing charge. So much for good deeds.

Anyway man, everything happens for a reason, and this too shall pass. . .

. . . But is there any way around parking your car in DC? (It's too bad handguns are completely illegal in DC)

That sucks bad Phil. :(

I just got my 3rd restitution check from the bastard that broke into my car about 3-4 years ago. He did his time and now the county is sending me checks. I'm getting $8 a check! Woohoo. I'll be getting an $8 check every month for a while I guess. I'd rather just have my shit back but at least they caught him.
