ok, my friend from the local subaru club tells me theres an ss 5mt right across the street from his house adn that it hasent moved for a long time. so i go and put a note on it saying that i was interested in the car.
fast forward to today. i just got back from testdriving it. its 93 5mt that to say the least needs alot of work. at first i was thinking i could swap all the aftermarket parts from my car over (exhaust turbo ect..) and then id have an easy 5mt ss that looks the same as the one i have now. then i could sell the one i have now to my brother.
the problem is that everything thats wrong with my car, (the 4eat mostly and the scraped up front end,) is right with this car. and everything thats wrong with that car,( the rest of the body ie. paint fading on the top the spoiler is down to the foam, theres rust on the trunk and rear pass quarter pannel the dent in the pass front door along with the rust,) is right with my car. so in the end our two cars together only make one good car instead of my orignal hope of being able to have both be drivable adn not turning to dust in a few years.
i really want to do a swap of all my stuff into a gc chassis with a 5spd but thoes are really hard to come by. with this i could get a fwd auto and not care becaue i could just swap everyting in this car over.
my orignal intention was to get a car thas jsut as good as mine is now but with a 5mt for basicly free, since id be sellin the car i have now in stock form for as much as i pay for this new one. i see that its a loosing situation if i do because of all the rust yet its a wining situation because i can do the swap i want even easier than before.
i offered the guy 1100-1200 cash and he said hed think about it. he said hed be willing to take 1500 cash since book is 1800. he also said his brother in law might want it so hed let me know.
so should i take it if he accepts my offer? should i pull out? and what should i do with it if i get it?
i hate it when things get more complaited after you know the whole story.

Would you be happier with the GC or the 5mt SS? What are the chances of you finding a GC before your current one is dead. If you think you'd be happier with the GC and that it'd probably happen within a year, I'd wait. Otherwise I would go ahead and pick it up and get to swapping parts.
It's a hard call, if it were me, I'd probably go with the SS, but I like the looks of the Legacy more.

see thats the thing though, if i get this ss finding a sutiable gc is much easier. the only requriements for the gc go form having to have a 5mt and awd to the body has no rust. right now finding a good gc that fits is really hard. and its not like my car is gonna turn to dust anytime soon as mine is rust free. all i really want this car for the the 5mt.
so to break it down
pros for buying the 5mt ss
- having a 5mt instead of a slush box
- not having the huge gaps in the front end
- less miles on the motor
- finding a swapable gc gets a whole lot easier
cons for buying the 5mt ss
- rust could engulf the car verry soon
- it leaks like none other, (oil and powersteering fluid, and coolant)
- wont be able to regain money out as orignaly anticapated.
and just as a note. the coolant resovior is incursted with coolant. its leaking or leaked out of all the seams where the tank was put together.

well the good parts on the 93 cost more to swap over where as the parts on my car i could easily do myself. things like a tranny and body parts i really cant do myself. espcialy since the headlight bucket thingies are weld on.
scott, ive never seen a awd gc 5mt lower than 2000 dollars but even at that price it still was a bit rusty. i do 300 mile radius searches and no limit USA searches all the time.
to that end i just found a 5spd gc 95 (none of that obd2 crap) for 3000 dollars. techicnaly if i get that car it would be about the same if i bought the 93ss for 1100 and a rust free gc for 2000 which im not hopefull of finding at that price. but even though its the same price id have 2 motors to work with. so i techicnaly end up with more for the same price but then again......
im so confused

transmissions not that hard, just time consuming. you can do it with a floor jack. I made a cradle for the trans out of 2x8 and ratchet strapped it to the jack. if you were working fast, had everything in front of you and were lucky, I bet you could do it in a weekend. less time with air tools.
what panels are bad on your car?

1994 Touring Wagon: ruby mica, 5mt swapped
front bumper is pushed down slightly and the headlights folowed when i got in a little fender fight a few years back. so the headlight buckets and radatior support beam are a little outta wack.
and its not just a transmission. its the full swap, i have a 4eat in my car right now. so id have to do all that stuff. i really have no confidence in doing such a large item for lack of tools and experience. it took me more than a few days to get my turbo off my car the first time. granted i can do it in 5 mins now but having never done a trans before is a bit daunting.

sorry no pics till wensday at least. my brother is gonna use the car for the winter. the 350z he has doenst do good going up hills in the snow.
anyone know how to figure it out exactly. i didnt think looking for diasnostic ports would work since jsut about everyting has thoes. its a 95 L 5spd with the side feed injectors. im not even sure if it has the 1.8 or 2.2 it doesnt have an arm rest or anything like that. but it is awd and 5spd so thats good.

this may be ture as he hasent driven the car in the winter yet. most reviews say it does good in the snow but the thing is he lives on one side of the mountain and works on the other. he doesnt want to take chances. plus. he puts almost 100 miles on it a day and he really wants to stop doin thatprofessor wrote:>>the 350z he has doenst do good going up hills in the snow.
with 3200 lb almost perfectly distributed, that car would go like stink in the snow with a god set of winter wheels and tires
