The Ashtray: for all your half-baked topics!

That was optomistic, wasn't it? :)

I pose a question:

You know how certain kinds of people drive certain cars? Kinda like how cars "fit" their owners in some strange way :?
We know we all like fellow legacy owners, and some subie owners, but what kinds of cars and their respective owners don't you like or get along with?

I'll start: I don't like eclipse people :p

I don't like minivan drivers. They all tend to drive slow. It drives me insane.

I'm seriously getting where I don't like any new-gen Subie drivers at all. None of them. Even the 2.5RS owners don't know shit about Subarus before 1998.

Does anyone wanna talk about Brats and the jump seats in the back? No. Does anyone wanna talk about old GL's that were slow but unstoppable, until you had to put oil in them to stop the tapping ? No. Does anyone wanna talk about ANYTHING besides UTEC tuning or the new-and-improved Edsel design? NO!!!

Honestly, there are very few car people that I encounter in person that have even remotely the same interest in cars as I do. Sure, there will be some people who might have a Honda Prelude that they swapped a JDM H22 motor into themselves, and they know a lot about Hondas. But do they know anything about... oh, say, Porsches? For God's sake, how can anyone who calls themselves a car guy not know the model number of every 911 ever made, from the 930 to the new 997? Who else knows anything about the Renault 5 Turbo, how they got that 1.4 liter engine to make 350hp in the rally car? What halfway-respectable car guy doesn't know that the E30 M3 has a 2.3-liter 4 with 200hp? How many people knew that the Ferrari 550 Maranello was the first front-engined, rear-drive car to have a top speed of 200+ mph? Everyone should know that the Honda S2000 went from a 2.0 4cyl to a 2.2 4cyl...

Shit, I hate domestics with a passion and even I know that the new Corvette has an LS2 motor that displaces 6 liters and has 400hp, except for the upcoming Z06 which has an LS7 motor displacing 7 liters and has 500hp...

Am I the only one who gobbles up car info like this? I just don't understand how someone can have a hobby that they love and not want to know every single piece of information pertaining to it??

I better stop there. I'm having a bad day, sorry guys.

I had a 82 GL. It was badass. We used to play dumpster soccer with the brushguard. After a disk brake expoded after getting too thin one day, i put it in low first and turned off the engine to stop in order to limp home.

Feel better?

We had an 86 GL...that thing went through snow higher than the tires themselves. It also went up hills completely covered with ice.

I also don't like most new Subie owners ... at all. I don't even bother talking to them anymore. They might as well be more uppity Honda owners. New BMWs are usually driven by gym-monkey douche bags and the G35 is their new alternative car. Hummer H2 - for small to non existant penises and the resultant personality inherent to that condition. New Mercedes-Benz drivers are usually boring and status-oriented snobs. Porsche owners vary from well-rounded enthusiasts to asshats akin to the general new BMW driver. West Coast Ferrari owners suck as a hybrid between the above BMW and Mercedes archetype with a little H2 bling-insecurity thrown in. Possibly it's the difference in venues, but West Coast expensive car owners are pretty close to the Ferrari people. I find the East Coast owners to be more predominately enthusiasts with more well-rounded tastes - the kind that can go on about vintage Ferraris, Citroens, or hot rodded Camaros.

Now that I think of it, most of the so-called car people that I hate are those that own new cars. Most older car owners of every marque are the down-to-earth variety.

i actualy like the new gen suby people. mostly because all the ones i hang out with are out of the box thinkers like many of us here. they dont have to fab up their own stuff but they do. for example, my friend jared, started out with the standard cobb stage 2 but got sick of it so he slapped a holset onto his car, not because it was nessarily better but because it was different. also when the guy with the nicest wrx in the state tells you your car is badass its kinda hard for me to hate on them.

as for people i hate id have to say the people that get a camaro and think their the shit because they have 8 cilinders and that than can beat anyone anywhere. met a guy one time with a ls1 ss and the frist thing i said to him was "nice car. i love these" his responce was "yeah alot better than that bucket you pulled up in. why dont you go by a real car and race me and ill still take your money" what a jackass.

Honda ricebox owners with the "oh so cool" grapefruit shootin' fartcans. Usually oblivious to most proper driving procedures and ettiquite, these jags have found a new level of pissing off other drivers and furthering the stereotype of the younger generation drivers. That shiny 4" chrome tip really makes the three smashed in quarters seem non-existant. :smt009

Motorcycle owners who drive like they're the only people on the road. Most likely to die in any collision, these weaving, passing on the right, unacknowleding of right-of-way, speeding in highly unpredictable rush hour traffic, t-shirt and shorts wearing, non-helmet using pricks always get felt bad for when they end up under a semi and make it on the 10 o-clock news. :smt011

Die to ride, ride to die.

Harley Davidson owners with deafening straight pipes always get under my skin. Nothing like having a couple thousand of these elite bastards rolling through town every year for the anniversary. During this special week you can bet on losing at least two hours of sleep a day. IMO the locals are the worst of the breed. They excessively flaunt the shit like it's going out of style 9 months out of the year. American arrogance at it's best.

Neon and SRT-4 owners. Enough said.

Pickup owners. These clowns always argue over who has the most torque or biggest payload. I say chain 'em all up side by side and let my Peterbilt drag 'em across the parking lot. Now that's a truck!

Just to give you an idea. I love the old school soobs.

2) 88 Subaru GL
3) 88 Subaru GL-10
4) 87 Subaru GL-10
5) 90 Subaru Legacy

7) 89 Mustang GT
8) 87 Subaru GL
9) 88 Subaru GL
10) 93 Subaru Legacy Sport Sedan
11) 1992 Susuki GSX
12) 92 Subaru Legacy Sport Sedan
13) 88 Subaru GL
14) 92 Subaru Legacy Sport Sedan
15) 98 Honda CBR
16) 91 Subaru Legacy Sport Sedan
17) 86 Subaru GL
18) 94 Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon
19) 88 Subaru DL
20) 02 CBR F4i

I really like Subaru owners. The REAL ONES. Not the poser 'tuner' kids who buy WRX's and STI's and have no appreciation for the roots, and ideas of the older cars that made them what they are today. I typically hate women driving any sort of car, really. However, if you find me a women whos driving any of these cars and can shoot me some differences between the EA-81 and the EA-82 then she will have gained my respect.

Oh Hell yeah, we used to have one of those. Traded it in in 1994 @ 190k for the Subie that I drive now :D

Drivers that I don't like...hrm...there's a lot.

I can definitely Identify with Richard. Its definitely Truck country up here, and most of them are idiots.

The Harleys with Straightpipes that tear through our rural roads and you can hear them 2 miles after they pass your house are super annoying.

But what I hate most of all, is Pontiac GRAND AM enthusiasts, or just drivers in general. Seriously, Grand Ams are junk. They feel like junk, after 30,000 miles, they drive like junk, and they look like shit. How can you get excited about that? Oh...it has Ram Air? Really? I don't see any ram air, just a decal on the side...hmmmm. Morons.

And then there's the common Grand Am Drivers, mostly stupid blondes that twist their hair while sitting stopped at a green light (yes, it has happened in front of me, I honked until it turned red, and she still hadn't moved...bitch). I see more stupid driving in Grand Ams on the highway and in town than any other vehicle. And what do these blondes (yeah, I'm sound stereotypical right now, but its so damn common) do when they almost kill themselves and other people doing these stupid things? They GIGGLE! I just want to strangle them...grrrr.

Note: Not all Grand Am Drivers are bad, but most of them are.

Another Female Grand Am story: Girl that I know, drives an older 2 door grand am. She got caught going 44 mph in a 15 SCHOOL ZONE. Got out of the damn ticket! She's been pulled over 3 times for expired plates, also, and hasn't once been ticketed. I got pulled over once, and recieved a 156 dollar fine!! WTH?! She's not even pretty or anything, she just cries her way out of shit! Meanwhile the cops lay down the motherfucking law as hard as they can against me.

Sorry, that's my rant.

Thanks Tristan, i think I needed that. :x

I seriously wish I had tits sometimes.

One of the girls on NASIOC who is somewhat local to me has an 01 2.5RS; I just did her timing belt two weeks ago, and she's coming back from a trip today probably (the Dragon was her first stop). Anyway, the girl drives like a maniac. She's not a bad driver, but she still hauls ass everywhere she goes. She doesn't know the meaning of the words 'slow down!!' I'm super-glad that she's an automotive and Subaru enthusiast, but I swear, she gets pulled over at least once a month. At least. And its usually for something like 85 in a 65. Most of the times, she gets warnings. How? First off, she's well-stacked . Second, she usually makes a scene, usually involves crying. If she does get a ticket, she finds a way to get out of it in court. She has no points on her license at this time.

Most other women drivers in general just scare me shitless. My grandmother always has and always will drive like ass. My last F-buddy drove horrific. And almost anytime I drive around a woman driver for any distance more than a few miles, I guarantee I will see her do something really stupid.

I consider myself to be an above-average driver (average meaning the animals out there on the roads now). My reasoning for that is that I am an enthusiast who cares about and appreciates my driving privilege, and also my training: from the National Safety Council when I had my permit at 15, to the little bit of seat time I have on autoX courses. Sure, I could improve in so many ways, but I'm at the point now where I need money to do so. For now, my driving abilities suffice for transportation. Most people on the road can't honestly say that...

Neons, civics, and cavaliers. The worst regardless of make/model is something that has almost no suspension travel and a lot of primer showing. This combo has pretty much always been an indicator of a bad driver in my experience.
Those guys with the lights on the roof are really annoying too.

My buddy has a nice Grand Am GT V6 with real Ram Air. I'll tell you what, that thing is fast. And he doesn't drive like ass.

As for hondas and ricers..I like how their exhaust is completely louder than their engine then when it comes to the light, I can beat them off the line every time.

I would consider myself an average driver with an above average ability to notice things. I can memorize stuff fast so...

Oh, yeah, I know that there was a Ram Air Version, but the ones I keep seeing in Appleton have absolutely no Ram Air, just the little logo on the side of the hood...

Not all Grand Am Drivers are bad, and not all Subaru Drivers are good. But the trend seems to go that way
