Dude, just when I was saving up money too. It is a Clicking noise from the area around cyl 3. My guess is a sticky valve lifter. You can only hear it b/w 2800 and 5000 RPMs. The frequency of the noise increases with rev. It sounds like metal on metal. Bad Stuff! I know its not lack of oil or quality for that matter. Ive used Mobil 1 for the past 4 yrs. Any guesses? This car is my commuter, too. It's got me kinda freaked.

How many miles on the car? It may just be time for a valve job. . . :?

115K. I just took it to a mechanic my Dad knows and he said that its a bearing in the head. He suggested a rebuild, or different engine alltogether. This is happening at the worst time. Tuition is due soon. If I can get a small loan, I can get a STi 2.0 off of ebay. 280Hp. Thats assuming a lot though. Lets suppose I do have to replace/rebuild my engine... What is my best and most cost effective option? Help me out here guys.

I would guess that it is something oil pressure related with the lifters.

http://www.endwrench.com/current/winter ... Repair.pdf on page 2 it talks about pushing on the rocker arms to check for air.

you could try that.
