Insomnia?
Anybody else having problems sleeping lately? I seem to be able to fall asleep for 2-3 hrs, then i wake up and can't go back to sleep. I think school must be stressing me.

Benadryl? Other anti-histamines?
I've also found that ibuprofen is good, as well.
Although, the point is that you need to be conditioned to sleep at the proper time in your schedule. (I've had to flip my schedule as a result of working nights, but I've never "suffered" from insomnia, either.)
I would pick a series of events and make it a routine every night. Make it so those steps lead you to be in a state of mind that would allow you to fall asleep.
Showering is good, brushing your teeth may be a bit too 'exciting', but I'd still recommend it. And of course, a little bedtime "reading" (wink wink) is never a bad ending.
I would refrain from any kind of meditation, as school seems to be dominating your thoughts; whereas all my suggestions are ways around your problems. But hey, if you're the confront-your-demons type, go for it.

One of my old roommates had alot of trouble sleeping. I spoke with my mom about it (she's a nurse practitioner, and I ask her all of my medical questions) and she suggested that he not drink any caffiene during the day, and then take some melatonin before bed every night. Within a week he had a normal sleep schedule

I can fall asleep anytime, anywhere. Usually while I'm driving. What I have a problem with is waking up in the morning: I can't. I sleep through my alarm for 30-45 minutes before my mind registers "OH SHIT! I need to get up!" I was written up at work yesterday by my superviser for continually being late. This morning, my boss yelled at me when I showed up 10 minutes late(and I was the first one of my co-workers to show up). I really have a problem. I need help.

LOL! Awesome pic!
I hate that. I get insomnia about once a month. Nothing helps but to get up, walk around, take a shower, read a book, clear my mind. But just lying in bed doesn't help and the worst is lying in bed while watching TV!!!
I do better if I don't drink any caffiene after lunch. Caffeine sticks in your system a LONG time. Regular sleep schedule is the other thing - but that's basically impossible because I stay up to 4am on the weekends.
On the other hand, having insomnia is cool somtimes - it's the best time to be super active and creative. For me - I create music on my piano or design something... but that's me - I'm an engineer.

Just curious.....out those of you that have insomnia, do you exercise regularly (at least 2-3 times a week)?
I know several years back before I got back into working out regularly I had issues sleeping.

I've always had sleep issues. Sometimes it seems to be school, sometimes other things, sometimes for no damn reason I just can't get to sleep. Those are the worst, just laying staring at the ceiling for hours on end waiting to fall asleep. I've tried tylenol PM, eh... it works if you take a couple but you have the next 7-8 hours for sleeping and I often don't.
One thing I'll do is heat up a cup of milk and put in a tad of vanilla and sugar to sweeten it a little and that in conjuction with slow/sleepy music will usually get me going in the right direction for sleep. I try to let my mind relax and worry about my stresses once I'm asleep.
And yes, I've very active. I don't go the gym and regularly excersise but I do a lot of hiking and am outdoors a lot. I always have been and it doesn't really make much difference in insomnia except in the summer when I'm working hard long days outside and just get completely exhuasted.
