Need more torque, what can I do?
Hi,
I race my legacy in rally and its bogging in tight corners. I'm trying to left foot brake to keep boost up but not going so well.
I have replaced the air box with a pod filter and run a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust with no mufflers. Maybe this has lost me my torque? Seems to be dead below 3500rpm.
I have a VF8 turbo and it hits boost around 2500.
I also use a eprom chip in standard ECU which seems to run abit too rich everywhere, I think it might be getting to much fuel sometimes???
Close-ratio box, anti-lag and stand alone ECU would help, but I need some more cost effective options.
Cheers
Hayden

my car also seems to run a bit too rich in all rpms, and mine does like to bog down also. i think u should check into that.
i dont think there is any way to up your torque without spending a lot of money.
as you said, you could do these

but that would all be expensive IMO. sorry i couldnt help ya any more.

I don't think freeing up the intake or exhaust really hurts low-end torque on a turbocharged vehicle. I think it just increases top end, and the change makes the bottom end feel like it lost power.

I actually wasn't even thinking about turbo... that makes sense.BAC5.2 wrote:I don't think freeing up the intake or exhaust really hurts low-end torque on a turbocharged vehicle. I think it just increases top end, and the change makes the bottom end feel like it lost power.

2 Step limiter what?!?rallitektech wrote:What you suffer from is small displacement. I hate the 2 litre. Im forced to drive USDM WRX's all the time, and I just want to vomit all over them.
You need ignition timing my friend. Thaty'll gain ya some low end and spool up.

Buy a new engine.
Really.
No replacement for displacement.

Thanks for your tips! All useful apart from new engine.
I think there is no cheap/quick answer. I need to get the wallet out and spend some money, again!!!
I good tune on a 4wd dyno with a stand alone ECU would be best I think??? maybe some anti-lag. Practicing my left foot braking everyday so that is alway hoping.
Better start saving.
Thanks for your help.
