Autotronic replacement board

Post by Legacy777 »

I'm assuming the "Subaru WRX 1994 to 1996 replacement board." is OBD2??

OBD-1.

94-96 WRXes ECUs are actually very similar to those in 93-94 non-turbo North American Legacies. Other first-gen JECS ECUs are also similar.

Yep. The JDM WRX went OBD2 in 1997. A Friend has an impreza with a 94 WRX swap (controlled by an Apex PowerFC). It ran (an 11.8 I might add) properly, and was using the turbo that is in my car now :).

I think you'd actually want to use a 97-98 board, though. I think they have the same basic pinouts as our stock ECUs, unlike 94-96 WRXes which had 4-channel ignitions.

Would any of those boards work with the turbo legacy ECU?

Or would I use a 94 n/a ECU with that board and then tune?

Vikash, so you think the 97-98 board would be better....would there be issues since they went to OBD2 in 97?

Not sure...there's a tuner in town that sells autotronic I believe. No idea of the cost or if this stuff would work....I'd more or less like to know the if it'd work.

Realize that those boards aren't meant to work with stock ECUs -- they're meant to replace stock ECUs. They're full standalone ECUs that just fit inside the stock ECU case.

I don't think they'd fit inside a Hitachi ECU case, but they should fit inside any of the JECS ECU cases, I would imagine. Maybe with a little effort.

I don't think they actually went to OBD-II in 97. I think it was in 99. I might be wrong though -- Phil, where did you get that info?

Gotcha....I thought they were add-on boards.

It may have been 99. I seem to remember hearing someone say it was in 97. But heresay isn't always right.

I know at least 94 was OBD1. Brent's yellow car has a 94 ECU in it.
