I started this swap last winter and got as far as bolting in the 3 major anchor points. The belts came from a '95 Legacy. The buckles match the existing mate on the seats. There was minor cutting (1/4") on the retractor unit to make it fit in the pocket neatly. Removing the old motorized stuff was quite involved, but fairly straightforward. I don't have the Canadian trims, so I chopped the old stuff to make it work for now. I had annoying rattles since all the mount points for the trim were on the track which is gone now. So I fabbed a simple bracket to secure one clip of the A pillar trim just behind the windshield/roof junction. Still a little buzz on rough pavement, but not bad. At least I won't go crazy on the trip home from Alaska.

I want to do this.....how do the 95 belts mount to the chassis & fit around the trim? Any ideas?

I'd prefer not leave all the trim off like that.....

Josh, with the right trim pieces, you'd never know the belts were from a '95. The trim I'm using is the original auto-belt stuff, hence it being chopped and rigged. I'm hoping to hit a Canadian junkyard or two on my trip back from Alaska and score the right trim and related parts. For now, the functional end is done. The belts bolt right in with a mixture of '91 and '95 hardware. Some bolts work better in some places. All the threaded holes are in the chassis already. Your current lower B pillar trim will work fine, but I've read that the Canadian one fits a bit better. With the exception of chopping my upper B trim, it looks just like it did with the auto junk in. PM me if you want more detail. I'm happy to walk you through it. It seemed like quite a daunting project to begin with, but ended up being fairly simple, just bolts really.

FYI, looking at the manual belts in my GL it looks like they too would bolt up. I have not really taken things apart to see if they actually do, but if you got some from a junkyard and tried and they did work it would make it a lot easier to do manual belt swaps. You still wouldn't have trim but oh well.

I need the canadian trim as well. I just hacked up my stock stuff, but didn't have anything to make a bracket out of, so it rattles.

Now the CG lock will fit to your belt. :)
