04-07 Subaru Legacy Struts?

Post by ericem »

Hi, i just have a question about the struts on the newer legacies, will they work on my 93 legacy wagon? See i want to keep my ride height stock, and i want to use the 17" alloys off a newer legacy. The reason i ask is because i would think the ride quality would be as good as a newer subaru, and handle as well, and not have a rough ride with the low profile wheels. Although it might lower it a tad, what do you think? Good or bad idea? Thanks.

nope. 00+ has multi link rear suspension so the struts and springs are completely different.

oh. What do you suggest then, to get some good handling, i don't want this car to feel like a boat, i like a solid vehicle, with a good ride. And i plan on getting larger rims 16-17". Ill most definitly add a strut bar as well.

KYB GR2s, whiteline control springs, 20mm 96-99 Legacy gt front swaybar, 18mm 91-94 turbo legacy rear swaybar (or 96-99 Outback rsb).

That would be a pretty good setup for around $600.

Whiteline is the only company that makes a wagon specific spring. Everything else will sag in the rear and not work well.

Check this thread out for suggestions:

Strut bars are cheap on e-bay and a set for a GC will work for you. I'm really against buying the expensive name brand ones.

Ok thanks alot man! doesn't sound steep either, i was about to spend $2000 for front and rear OEM struts only :D

I hear alot of people seem to be running the KYB's but are the GR2's going to give me a harsh ride? My mom still drives the car, and she hates having a rough ride.

I've got GR2's.

They're fine. Good stock replacement. About as perfect as you're gonna get.

I believe 15% firmer than OEM.

WHA? That's a lot. A full set of GR2s goes for 230 USD on e-bay. Tire rack should also be able to get you them at a decent price. PDM-racing is in Canada and sells the whiteline springs. Look for used swaybars here or on nasioc (especially the regional forums).
