Body Swap

Post by 1990 Legacy L Owner »

Say I wanted to swap the my wagon body with a sedan one, is it possible? My wagon is a 90 L fwd na 5spd. and the sedan is 91 awd automatic, the rest i don't know about the sedan.

The reason I'd like to do this is becuase the sedans engine is better, it's awd, and it's cheap. It's cheap because it needs a tranny. Would I be able to swap my fwd 5sp tranny with the sedans auto awd tranny?

Basically, I just want to take the trunk and cab off the sedan and swap it with my wagon cab and cargo area, leaving the hood and front fenders on the sedan.

Thanks in advance!

Nope. Body swap not possible.

You can pull the tranny from the wagon, put it in the sedan and lose the AWD, and it'll work. Usually people want to go the other way though.

ok, how much is a auto tranny gonna cost? They're selling the car for $300, I just wanna stick the tranny in and sell it. Do you recomment a JY or buy a used one?

Im not sure if I'm even going to buy this car yet, I just want to get the numbers figured out before I make a move.

Thanks for the help!
