1996 Legacy Sedan Amp Cabling! *56K*

Post by Mrdjc »

Right, just to show off what I was doing today, and perhaps in the hope to help other people who are thinking of doing the same.

Okay, So, I was going to do a quick transfer of the Power, RCA and Remote cable from my justy into the legacy.. Easy peasy! Yeah right!

On the Justy the wiring loom runs along the SIDE of the door surrounding, so you can strap anything to it, and follow its line. After practicly taking the whole car to bits, I discovered that the Legacy uses the inside of the door surrounding, impossible to get at! Great... Ah well, the fuel lines looked like a valid route to follow instead.

So, took the seat out, started dismanting the dash to see where the most logic place would be to come through and into the engine compartment. Ended up following the fuel lines right the way though, they are roughly the same diameter as the power cable, and there was a space space to go through the rubber grommet thing! Great idea in theory, but damn did it take long to do! I had to take out the glovebox, then the heater housing, just to even attempt to get my fingers in the right place. I then discovered that the rubber mat/soundproofing stuff ran all the way up, and that there was no hole through it. So i tried to make a hole, and succeeded eventually.. I used the Airconditioning (I think) holes go gain access to the back of the heater fan. I then used a bit of wire attached to the end of the power cable, prodded it through the hole, and went inside and yanked the cable through. Woohoo! Victory! After that it was very simple, a matter of manouvering the cable till it was out of sight and not fraying anywhere then I just clicked the cable into the spare slots that were available on the plastic clips for the fuel line.

underneath the back seat i went to go underneath the metal pole that is there, so the cable is not clamped at all.

Then, for the RCA + remote cable, it was a simple matter of unscrewing the underneath of the steering compartment of the dash, and feeding the cable over the top of the steering housing, and behind the middle console bit into the space where the radio goes.

Time for pics!!! Wooohoo etc!

Oh.. and I haven't managed to fit my radio yet, as I thought I had the right ISO adapter, but it turns out its a Suzuki (I think) and not a Subaru! The other thing I would like to mention, how bloody rediculous is the factory fitted radio! It had a ground wire attached, and screwed onto the BACK of the radio bracket, and then attached to a metal beam somewhere behind the dish, it was to short to come all the way out to unscrew it, so I just cut it off. STUPID!

That's the rubber grommet spare bit where I wanted to put the cable.

And This is with the rubber Aircon (I think) grommet removed.

The bit of wire i used to pull it through the Soundproofing mat and hole.

Okay, Inside on the passenger side, (Shortest route from battery to boot.) Fed around the back of the Heater fan, and along the side of the fuel line.
Image
The simple bit of running it along the fuel lines, popped into the plastic connectors.

And underneath the back seat, under the metal bar.

The RCA and Remote Cable on the other side, so you get the idea.
Image
Underneath the Back seat, done I should point out that the RCA cables do NOT fit under the metal Bar/Tube thing (Connectors..). Image
The Finished (I hope) thing under the hood.
Image
And the bit I plan on taking the negative from in the Boot (What is it for?

Enough bandwidth rape-age again!

Cheers,
Dan.
