Heads, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc...

Anyone swapped in a usdm 2.0 liter?

Post by Arctic Assassian »

I've got a 91 ss with a blown motor. I can either rebuild another 2.2t, or swap in a 03 wrx motor. I can get the 2.2 for 500 bucks, then spend another 500 rebuilding it, or I can spend 900 bucks on a rolled wrx, with a nice low mileage motor, but no computer. So after finding a computer, what needs to happen with this swap? I have the full dash, wiring everything but the tranny and the computer. I've searched, but can't seem to come up with answers to these questions.
thanks

Got your PM but have been busy. The short answer is that using the modern Ej20 is going to be exactly the same as doing a swap into an Impreza. There's no shortcut to it because your car is already turbo'd. You will need all the wiring and ECU for the modern WRX to make this work. While it's a good deal, I would probably pass on trying to put it into your car. However, for what you are going to pay for the wreck, I would personally buy it and part it out and make 3-5 times what you paid...

Ditto. You could rebuilt the 22T block and apply WRX parts. Since that is what a large amount of us here do.

Thanks for the input. I would've been quick to buy that thing up and part it out, but because I live in Alaska, shipping kills interest in the things I sell. I decided that right now, I don't need another project, so I'm going to buy up, the other t-leg and mix and match parts untill I have one car that is in great condition. I did make that wrx deal work for me though, I directed my buddies attention to it, and he is gonna pay me back somehow. I told him I liked his vf-39 and pinks sitting on his garage shelf, unused. He told me he would think about it. lol
