I think the bore size might be off a tad.anthonyej20 wrote:will a dual overhead cam gasket set work for my single overhead motor i just am going to use the head gaslets and what will fit anyone please i need to find them quickly so i can order them
also the coolant passages arent the same, you'll have problems down the line.

Do you think you can be any more vague? There's about half a dozen SOHC head gaskets and about half a dozen DOHC head gaskets. What exact parts (with years and original vehicle) are you using?anthonyej20 wrote:will a dual overhead cam gasket set work for my single overhead motor i just am going to use the head gaslets and what will fit anyone please i need to find them quickly so i can order them

I think he's asking if something like a HG for an '02 WRX 2.0 would work for his EJ20. I could be wrong about his idea.

Well no matter what your car is you buy the gaskets for that motor. If you swapped in a ej20 then buy the gaskets for that motor. If you need just the head gaskets then tell them you need just head gaskets not a head set or master set.anthonyej20 wrote:what dropdfocus said is correct thats what i need to know my car is a 1990 with a 94 ej20 turbo

I think the problem he is having is the motor was swapped over before he purchased the car. So he's trying to identify if the motor truely is a JDM EJ20 or not.

The older ej20's used the thick HG. And the newer ones use the thin metal shim HG. I don't know if you can find the thick ej20 HG, can you?
I used the metal shim HG on my JDM EJ20 and I could barely get the intake manifold bolts in. I think this cause the heads to pull away from the block and may have caused an oil leak. I'm not sure, but somehow that JDM motor used about 3 quarts of oil in 3 weeks and eventually led to my second engine's demise.

Oh yeah. So always use the right HG. And always check your oil after swaps or rebuilds. I have to learn these things the hard way...
