Read this thread for more details. Its funny what people will do for a minor increase in mileage. http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=5441

Edit: The matching thread about how to increase the performance even further! http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=5798

I could only read like 3 or 4 down on the first one, then I felt an ill feeling in my stomach and stopped.

Wow. I can't believe those guys. They're really into it! That's so odd. It's funny, but I have the feeling each and every one of them will die in a freak roadrage accident because they refused to travel over 32mph in the right lane.

Maybe the pennies they save will help offset the repair bills in the future?

Just what I was thinking! Isn't that what you'd call a double-edged sword? They're severely neglecting the mechanical and physical needs of the engine in order to save a few bucks at the pump? I can't see those motors lasting a long time, or even being healthy with all the combination of things they're trying to do. I wonder how often they replace air sensors and upper electronics.

Doesn't seem there's many intelligent ideas there. Why not buy a Locost kit, make an aerodynamically efficient body over it (the 7-type body has a CD in the .6 range!), and a small engine. Hm, the Subaru diesel would be sweet when it comes out, if a little hard to get.

Eggfuckingzactly!
It drives me up the wall that Vespa owners think they are helping the environment when in reality the big SUV they hate so much often emits less of the harmful emissions per mile than the scooter.

Awesome!
someone else realizes this!
i thought i was the only one

if only society could understand this too,
just like you said with the scooter and the SUV.

i learned about this from a motorcycle article,
sure motorcycles get kick ass gas mileage but they put out WAY more toxins than cars do, in general.

i think that if we are going to rely on an alternate source of energy, it needs to be either electricity or hydrogen.

and i'd get a tesla roadster :-D

With the announcement of Toshiba's new SCiB lithium-ion batteries (5 min. for 90% charge) going on sale for industrial use this year (automotive are still being developed), I'm thinking of going back again to my Cessna idea and building it as an electric. I think I have a way to build the windshield to pass MA DMV standards for a car so I don't have to worry about classification. This is a cheaper, quicker solution and an old aircraft fuselage in the yard looks less white trash than a crashed donor car for my alternative ideas.

Combine the HAI with an AIR Pump system from a late 70's Dodge/Chrysler (which happened to have HAI from the factory!), and you just might become more famous than the people who burn SUV dealerships under mountains of black smoke to prevent them from emitting CO2 at some point.
