Broken Nipple

So i was changing my plugs this weekend and decided it would be easier to pull off the air box assembly to reach the plugs. On the box that is between the air filter and the throttle body, (not sure what it is called) but there is a small nipple on the bottom side of this box. The vacum hose then runs to some sort of a valve near the air filter box. When i pulled this up, i noticed the nipple was broke off inside the hose and i have no idea how long it has been broken. I fixed the nipple back on the best i could and re-attached the hose. My question is, what does this nipple do ,what is the contraption it runs to, and will the driving that i did with it unhooked caused any damage?

search for the 'coffee cup mod.'

that black box is a turbo silencer. it's just a restriction on air flow.

if you remove it like i and many others have it will allow the air to flow more freely and your turbo spool will be a little louder

excellent, i have researched this mod. But what is the valve contraption that the vacum hose hooks into. ITs the nipple on the bottom of the silencer

IIRC, that hose goes to one of the nipples on the boost control solenoid.

There is a hose that goes from the boost control solenoid to that nipple.

go to home depot and in the plumbing dept. you will find a rack with a bunch of brass screw type fittings with a hose connector on the end.

Drill out the hole in the plastic box but leave enough meat to it so you can forcefully thread the fitting into it. Goop some silicone around it to seal it.

That should do the trick. Also, fix this as soon as possible and remember a vacume leak sucks

ok, this may sound stupid, but my car seems to run alot better when the hose is not connected to that nipple. IT spools up faster and sounds alot deeper than with the hose connected. I checked the boost levels and it still runs around 8 lbs. connected or not. What is the harm in running with the hose not connected?

I dunno about the stock solenoid, but my AEM EBC solenoid has 3 ports as well and just has a sintered muffler on the 3rd port. That implies that the stock solenoid should be fine without it, but keeping it hooked up to the intake tract would keep the system better sealed from outside contaminants.

don't drive your car (you still can) until you fix it... i got 12 miles to the gallon when i drove it and the nip wasn't attached.
i have an extra coffee cup (for the mod)i could send you if you need one.
