Vac problem

i just finished installing my vdo boost gauge and when i tried to start my car, it would roll over consecutively...but it would take awhile for it to start and when it did it just died like 2 seconds later and my revs would drop really fast from really high.

when i did get it to start up, it started at like 22K rpms, then it would fall really fast and not start.

my boost gauge read -20 for vac and then it went normal... then it died. .. really fast.

wtf.

i'm going to check my lines again in the morning but other than the boost gauge all i did was put a 90* silicon hose onto my TMIC setup.

weird, could using rubber (ish, like for the boost controller) hose for the boost gauge rather than the plastic nylon be doing this?

The type of hose isn't really a factor except that one may last longer than the other.

if all you did was install a tee in the line then it should be fine. it sounds to me that you may have unplugged another hose by accident or simply forgot to plug something in.

Sounds like of like what happens if you don't connect the IAC hose or something.

22000 RPM? You mean 2200 RPM? How long did it stay there before falling really fast?

-20 mmHg is normal idle vacuum. What do you mean by "it went normal?" And, again, how fast?

Hm. Dumb question, but are you confident it's properly sealing on both ends?

what hose is that because every hose that i can find is connected and tightened down with all of my might.

like the whole period of time between actually starting and dying was a total of 3 seconds.

oh, it went fast. like it "started" and kicked in at 22oo and then it stayed there for a short time, then it dropped to like normal idle @ 750 ish then it died. all within 3 seconds

pretty confident, my car ran better and actually started when there was a huge boost leak and hole in my 90* turbo inlet rubber hose of trash i ghettofabbed. i was getting 13 MPG. :lol: now i'm getting 0...:cry:
it's the same symptoms as when my slinky hose blew off my intercooler a month ago, except without ratteling of the whole car.

the only thing i can think of is if the rubber hose had a pinprick leak in it, but i seriously doubt that would cause this big of a problem... :cry:

Uninstall the T where you put the boost gauge in and hook it up regularly, that way you can rule out the boost gauge as a problem.

Are you getting any CEL's?


It sounds like the same problem I had when my MAF sensor wire was cut...

i think i just found out what it is, the dome shaped thing that connects to my recirc. is disconnected and was hissing loudly,

the part might be called the IAC but i'm not sure, there's a thin air line that connects to it and thats where the problem was. right by the coupler in my TMIC...

JB weld in progress :-D
