Project keep head unit stock change speakers

Post by ericem »

Well I tried it today. Let me tell you. WOW no difference at all lol. I was so pissed $60 in speakers and it made NO difference it was actually a little worse to be honest. Here are some pics. Stock speakers as you can see, the black speakers in the car I got from a outback I saw in a JY so I figured it was a good idea to buy them a while ago just because the speakers and housing were seperate including the adapter connectors. So anyway plugged it in compared to the old speakers. Said Ill save my $60 and buy a headunit. Sounds like I will be MUCH better off just getting a 1.5DIN headunit that will allow me to run my sub and have seperate bass controls for the subwoofer and 4 other speakers. Unless anyone has another idea so I can still do this with the stock head unit?? Here are some pics and a vid.

Hun, that's interesting. I wanted to hook up my i-pod to the stock stereo in my 2006 my impreza and to my suprise changing the head unit with the stock speakers made a HUGE difference. Way better sound, and it was just a 200$ JVC unit. I thought I 'd do the same in my 94 Legacy SS but I got very different results. The same JVC head unit made very little difference in the sound volume or quality in the leggy. I was planning on getting new speakers. But your story has thrown me off a little. Is your wirring all good?

I hope my wiring is all good. My connectors all look clean as well. All speakers seem to be working fine as well.
