Temp gauge dead.

Post by Bartek »

Well, started to resolve some problems with scooby. One of them that makes me nervous a little i temp gauge which has been dead since I had bought car. Temp sensor that is going to ECU is OK - fan kicks in. Temp sender gives about 50 ohms when engine fully warmed. Cant find any info on correct resistance but I guess even if it's incorrect it should kick needle up high - the less resistance the higher the needle. I dismantled instrument cluster and...dunno where to start at. I guess my interest is left plug called A. I have a kind of diagram but can't see what number is above A4. And I still dont know how to check gauge itself. I guess I should check resistance at sender and then at white/green wire at cluster A plug. And if they are equal, what should be next - excluding cluster change? Anyone has similar problem?

If the resistance is the same at the contact for the cluster & at the sender, then you have a wiring issue.

Thx 777.
I'll try to give pure 12 Volts to A4 and third path from temp gauge. As you can see it should be live wire BUT - is this A5???? Looks like A5 but scan isn't perfect.

If needle wont move on up at nearly 0 ohm resistance I will know gauge is faulty. Tell me I am right....please? :)

I'll have to look at my wiring diagrams. I get lost looking at just those small sections.

What year and model is your car?

Shoot me an email to remind me to look at my wiring diagrams.
