rear bumper core?

Post by jp233 »

OK, so my 93 wagon was hit in the rear and messed the rear end all up. I haven't pulled my bumper off yet, but I got a good rear bumper, foam, and the whole wagon hatch from the junkyard.

I looked at the core framing which is behind the foam on the donor car, and I thought it could be removed. I found two big bolts that go through the cargo floor, which I thought mounted the rear bumper backup structure (they were BIG bolts). It still wouldn't budge. Did I miss bolts? Or is it welded to the unibody...

That bumper backup piece on my car is dented all up and I'd rather get the good one from the donor car, I looked topside and bottom and couldn't find anymore attach points. Are there super secret mounting blank-off plates I missed?

OBTW, the friggin plastic screw-rivets things are AWFUL. Those things must be great to put together, but hell to take apart. I think I got 2 out of the dozen from the donor car, without having to destroy them. those things suck!

so I guess no one has ever removed the rear bumper core/backup structure ??????????

am I missing where some bolts should be for that thing, or is it just really stuck in there with an interference fit also and needs to be pulled out hard, or ..... ?
