22T block w/ EJ251 SOHC heads is a winning combo. If you can't locate a 22T block at a "reasonable" price, you can always pick up an EJ22E N/A motor for dirt cheap. The EJ251 heads flow a bit more than the EJ25D DOHC heads do. But the SOHC heads are sometimes harder to find than the DOHC heads, so people will seattle with the DOHC heads instead.

Stay away from the EJ25 motors if possible. It's basically the EJ22 motors with material removed to become a 2.5l displacement. Material removed means less of a heat sink and can have a higher tendency to over heat. I've never been impressed with the 2.5 motors where as the 2.2 motors are very solid & less prone to early death... There are likely more high mileage (200,000+) 2.2 cars running around than 2.5 cars.
