Dave, you were saying that Bryrons Impreza used the stock RS module beause
it delivered more spark. My question is will the module always deliver more
spark, or does it need the computer to tell it to do so?

Jason, from what I know....in the impreza module or coil pack will deliver more spark, but it needs a higher ignition source, MSD makes a nice one, I don't remember the model or anything, I can check my old emails. Rod I believe has also looked into the coil pack and MSD ignition. So you might want to ask him.

Just to second what Josh said, the pack can deliver more but it needs
more juice as well. Byron does have an MSD ignition, so it provides
plenty of that.

Can someone tell me what 'more spark' means? One coil can have a higher
voltage rating than another. But, however 'powerful' your coil is, the
voltage required to get electrons to jump the gap of your plug for the given
engine conditions will always be the same. Say, for example, that a plug
needs 10,000 volts to jump the gap at 3000 rpm, under load. It doesn't
matter if you have a 40,000V coil or an 80,000V coil, you only need
10,000V. That will be the maximum delivered.

Jason-Josh was correct; I`ve looked into the upgraded coil thing & here`s
what I`ve discovered: the later RS, 2.5 coils have about 485 v. as compared
to the earlier coils having about 370 v. It is potential voltage to the
plugs assuming you have everything else in order (wires, plugs, etc.). The
MSD Dis-2 unit is a capacitive discharge ignition that is for 4 cyl. engines
without a distributor. It provides an extended & hotter spark to the plugs
enabling more air/fuel to be burned in the same time frame. Reports of much
smoother idling, better mileage & the like are some of the benefits reported
along with better performance. It`s like most anything else: the correct
combination of all parts with the correct `timing` will give the best
results. I`ll have an update on my NA project(s) soon, but can tell you all
is VERY well so far! See ya`-ROD
