stripped threads in the frame

Post by georryan »

So one of the bolt holes in the frame that is used by the rear control arm bolts is stripped. I'm trying to figure out a good way to repair this. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm thinking of different avenues to fix this:

Get a heli-coil repair kit
Get a longer bolt and put a nut on the end of it (assuming I can get to it, which I think I can)

That's what I got so far. Someone mentioned to me that the coil may not work because there may actually be a nut welded to the other side and that is that I'm partially threading into. I don't have the car where I'm at tonight, so I can't go out and look at it. Any thoughts?

I've done the same thing and heli-coiled it. Didn't have a problem after two years or so.
