CD-R 80min audio disc works, but not cd-rw 80min audio disc?

Hey guys. I have the stock panasonic stereo with cd player this one>>



Now I have some kodak CD-R 80 min discs I used WMP to burn the songs as a audio cd. Worked no problem in the cd player. Made a disc the exact same way with a memorex CD-RW 80min and it won't play. Do I need to use certain CD-RW discs?

Most CD-RW discs will not work in early CD players period. Something to do with the RW dye vs. early lasers.

Stick with the CD-R's that work, they are cheap enough.

oh that sucks, I figured every week I could update a disc instead of having to make new ones all the time. Oh well... Was hoping a certain brand of CD-RW would work but even after googling for a while looks like plain out can't work. Thanks for you help though!

CD-RW usually stay "open" so you can write to or delete data off them like a hard drive. You may want to try and "close" the disk and then try it. If it still doesn't work then its what ScottyS said about the laser not picking it up.

CD RW was a terrible idea anyways. Once you write over it a couple times you sometimes start to see files that you wrote over that shouldn't be there anymore. They're expensive and at $15-20 for 100 discs, are you really going to burn something else over it?

I use CD-RWs somewhat frequently at work, and they're handy, but very slow to write. I usually burn Linux or Windows ISOs to them to test things. I use DVD-RWs also.

The reason RWs don't work, more specifically, is that when that laser hits the disc the amount of light reflected back is considerably less than a CD-R or standard "pressed" audio CD.
