Good afternoon all, I have been having a understeer problem under
more
"spirited" driving, mostly on slippery surfaces, I'm wondering if we
all understeer that badly? or if it's my tire pressure? worn shocks??
driving style?? I've heard that a bigger swaybar might help but I
thought that the Legacy Turbo had a big enough one.

understeer problem
g'day,
all model subaru's suffer from understeer. the factory consider it safer for
a car to understeer than to oversteer. so they er on the side of
understeer. the turbo liberty does have a slighty thicker rear sway bay than
std liberty but also a thicker front one. this makes it handle better than a
std liberty but keeps the understeer in check.
the best way to reduce this is to go to a bigger rear sway bar again. i
think from memory 22mm. front tyre pressure also helps. keep it on the high
side . don't worry about factory specs, that is a comprimise between ride
and handling.

ps. of coarse you can go all the way with anti lift kits, coil over
suspension etc, etc. value for money, bigger rear bar.

As far as i know, yes, we all understeer that badly at first, but suspension
mods (read larger sway bar most importantly, but also stiffer bushings,
struts, springs) will help that out.
May very well be your front tyres (Yes, i said T-Y-R-E-S) are
under-inflated. But overall, i think you did mention the biggest problem of
all is of course, driving style. Try going into the corner a little slower
and powering out instead of powering in.

understeer problem
All 4wheeldrive cars underteer some worse than others, my turbo legacy gt
wagon has got pretty bad unddersteer, but nothing some suspension/handling
mods wouldnt fix.
My 1990 Celica GT4 / Alltrac also had understeer but just not as bad as my
legacy.

Thanks to all for the information, I checked into Bars from MRT, I'm
going to Australlia in June so I may pick on up then. and I'm
looking into some shocks too, and yes, Jason...your probibly right,
driving style probibly comes into play a bit.... (how ya doin' ?
