Brake light blues

Post by soobrdad02 »

Wondering if anyone has encountered a problem similar to mine... This past week my lights have decided to go all funny on my '91 BJ. when I depress my brake pedal with the car and headlights OFF, my front marker lights along with my dashboard lights and rear brake lights illuminate as if the car were ON. I've also noticed that when I start the car and depress the brake pedal, a rather audible "click" can be heard from the vicinity of my gearshift (4EAT) and my "brake light" idiot light comes on to warn me of the apparent fact that my 3rd (elevated) brake light has decided to remain illuminated for the duration of my trip whether I'm braking or not. My hypotheses so far is either the neutral safety switch, or the brake light switch.. I figured that I'd pose the question to the board-members before going off on a wild goose-chase trying to figure out what was wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

It sounds like you may have a short some where, or that your alternator is possibly starting to go.

Aaaaaaand the problem was....a brake-light bulb slowly trudging toward it's death! By the time it finally died, the f'n bulb had turned a great shade of opaque milky-blue. All that for a bulb...
