Bypass the clutch damper with part numbers!

Post by bmxkelowna »

Just recently did a 5mt swap in my new turbo legacy, I've always preferred the feel of cable clutch trannies with push type pressure plates but I was able to get a full 91 turbo drive train from flywheel to lsd for 300$

I've been driving it for about a week now and HATE the feeling of the hydro/pull type so I figured I would start with removing the clutch damper.

I used
Russell pn: 656222 (20" straight -3 dot approved stainless line)
Russell pn: 641411 (-3 to 10x1 female fitting)
Russell pn: 640471 (-3 to banjo fitting)

My brother works at lordco so I paid 39$ after tax for everything.
The banjo attached to the clutch master, and the female fitting attached to the hard line that goes to the slave.
The 20" is a little long but lets you have lots of room to route the hose.

Outcome? 100% better, nice solid pedal feel from top to bottom and returns smoothly and quickly.

Interesting. Never felt the clutch when it had the damper on it. I removed mine before I got the engine running. I didn't use any parts though. Just used the hose that went to the damper.

i didnt even think to check if it was long enough, figured the braided line would be the best (stiffest) option other then hardline.

Oh yeah. If I recall correctly it wasn't actually long enough but with a slight bending of the hard line I was able to connect the two easily.

Yeah, I did not use the damper at all and am very happy with the hydro feel.

Yea was much better without the damper, especially when bleeding it.

Man I wish I read these threads before purchasing 2 SS lines, installing it with a new slave. Such a B!tch to
bleed :!:

Got a 15" line, guess i'll remove that POS Damper and try, try again :!: :smt013

I Now hate Hydraulic clutches and Power Steering, really miss my bare bones MK1 Jetta more & more, just not the NA FWD
