high idle

what all should be checked that would cause a high idle. i'm going to rule out a vacuum leak because i check them already

Can you provide more details? Is there a high idle all the time, when cold, when warmed up,...? How high is the idle?

When did this first occur? Did you perform any maintenance or other work recently?

it idles at 2000 right when it first starts up. and it was doing it when i picked it up from the shop that put the motor in. they claimed that they couldnt find why it was idling so high. so now i have to take it to another shop to figure out the high idle and the trans issue. i just wanna make a list of stuff i want this other shop to check

So does the high idle go down after it warms up, or does it continue idling high?

What all did the shop do that put the motor in, and what exactly was done? Was it a direct motor swap or were upgrades performed?

Was the throttle body & TPS of the new motor put in or was the old one used?

Any check engine lights?

Does your TB have this needle valve/screw on the top of it?

they pulled the block sent to the machine shop and put it back in. they change the tps and knock sensor but not the bad O2 sensor and when it warms up it drops to 1000 rpm

If they changed the TPS, it would be good to verify it is adjusted properly. The instructions in this scan tell how to properly adjust it.

they claimed to set it right. i think its a clogged or faulty iacv

well my check list for the new shop is
O2 sensor
recheck tps
check or replace iacv
trans bands and solidnoids
check valve body
but what else should i ad to the list for the high idle? i read somewhere that theres o rings in the throttle body that go bad could that be a possibility

Please give the shop the scan from the factory manual for TPS. Here are the other pages, which show how to test it.

I've never heard of any o-rings going bad on the throttle body. Not to say the seals around the throttle shaft couldn't go bad, it's not a common failure point from what I've seen over the years.

Check to see if the throttle body that was installed has had the stop screw adjusted. There will be a painted line over the top & bottom stop screws. If it's not there or rotated, you know those stop screws have been adjusted, and I'd recommend using your old TB or finding another one that hasn't had those screws adjusted.

Also, check for vacuum leaks, the normal stuff.
