Creaking door noise from engine bay?

Post by alexandermf »

Sooo lately within the last month or so I've noticed a sound coming from engine bay(back of engine possibly) that sounds like a old creaky door related to throttle from a stop... Its gotten louder to the point I felt a post here was warranted.

My only guess is the engine mount(dogbone) possibly going out? It has 200k on it after all...

I replaced both engine mounts with sti ones about 20k ago but never switched to the sti dogbone for wire harness and tmic clearance issues.

Someone mentioned it was "suspension flex" cuz it does it going up bumps slowly as well but ive never heard suspension flex this loud/noticeable and only at slower speeds.

Any suggestions?

I would check the pitch mount (dog bone), mine was bent after a trans change and had the same sound. Take it off and see if it makes the noise.

Take it off and drive without it? Nice and easy I'm guessing lol, it was never bent when we took it out to look at it when trying to replace with the sti one but im guessing almost a year of spirited driving could warp it

Ill try that today and report back

I forgot to tighten mine once and it rattled pretty bad. But yeah...taking it out is an easy test.

Believe I found the problem.. wasn't my dogbone. My ypipe from tmic rubs on the ac lines or whatever those are by the firewall and the sock I used to buffer it had a hole finally through it so I put a new sock in and no more noise so far lol

Good deal. You could try a piece of rubber instead of a sock.
