high rpm shifts

Post by turbo970 »

when i picked my car up from the shop he said i may need a new tcm. i drove the car home and the car would shift threw the gears at 5500 rpms. every thing in the trans is new. fresh rebuild. i'm going to try pulling the trans codes if any are there. but is high rpm shifts signs of a bad tcm

Is it the exact same transmission? If so, I don't see how or why you would need a new TCM.

Are you saying that even with light throttle pressure it still shifts at 5500 rpm? Can you clarify that. If that is the case, they didn't put something back together properly. Take it back and tell them to fix it!

if i put it in drive it shifts threw the gears at 5500. thats when i feel the car shift. i pulled the trans codes and came up with code 31 and 32. the tps is new and set right but still have high idle. i looked up code 32 it said vss #1 could that cause the high rpm shifts?

VSS 1 is the speed sensor in the rear of the transmission. I don't think that would cause the high rpm shifts, but I can't say for sure.

On the TPS code, does the ECU also throw a TPS code? If so, you need to look at that and or the wiring. If the ECU does not throw a TPS code, then possibly the wiring that ties from the ECU to the TCU may be in question. You can check the wiring from the TPS to the TCU connector for continuity. If it checks out then those may be bogus codes.

i talked to the local subie dealer and one of their older service tech said the wire harness from the trans to the what he called the the bulk connector could be bad. he said that harness is over looked alot on trans rebuilds. so the shop that rebuilt the trans is going to look at the harness. and see if it needs replaced. and yes the tcu and ecu both show a tps code still

You need to either fix the TPS or the TPS wiring to get rid of that code....that should help a lot, but you still may have other issues.

Yes, the harness does tie into the ECU, TCU, and TPS.

got the harness ordered will be here Thursday. i also recheck the ohm readings on the tps. wide open throttle reads 4.3 but fully closed read 14.3 when it should be 12. and yes josh i use your links for the proper settings even printed them off lol

The 14.3 vs. 12 ohms isn't a really big deal.

Let us know if the new harness helps.
