2WD fuse link??

my chilton book says that the fwd option is only for towing......
when i got the car the previous owners had ran wires to a switch in the car from the fuse input for the fwd they said they did it so you can change it while on the fly.......
a couple questions...
1. is it strictly for towing?
2. if not. wouldnt it harm somthing engaging it while driving?
3. the book says dont go over twenty MPH while in FWD mode. if its not just for towing can it handle normal speeds?

i cant figure out wy it would harm anything but just want to check..

I drove a full summer in fwd and the trans was fine all summer, I have a switch for it and I would use it time from time just to chirp the tires and leave some black marks.

sweet and the only way to tell if it is in front wheel drive is to burn out in gravel right?

The FWD light will be on in the gauge cluster.

I know people do this little mod and for the most part don't have any issues. The potential downside to this is killing the duty c solenoid. The solenoid is designed to receive a pulse width modulated signal. When you put the fuse in the FWD fuse holder, it sends a continuous 12v to the solenoid. The continuous 12v could cause premature wear on the solenoid and possibly failure. So if you do this, just be aware of the consequences.

ok i hooked everything back up and put a 20 amp fuse in and no light shows on the dash but the switch lights up when i switch it on. i cant physically tell a difference

I find it odd they say the fuse is for towing. I wouldn't trust that at all, the one time I needed my car towed I made them use Dolly's.
