Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
My clutch just went from slipping sometimes to all the time when the turbo starts to spool at around 2500 rpm, and a replacement is in order and I'm just going to order a lighter flywheel while I'm at it, but how's the fitment from the early Impreza engines? My Legacy is a 1993 turbo 2.0L EJ20G, so does the Impreza 1993 clutch and flywheel fit mine? Both five speed manual.
This is the one I'm looking at http://scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/produc ... u3c4rucdu0
With this flywheel http://scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/produc ... u3c4rucdu0
And it is true that you can mix the brands of flywheels and clutch, but not clutch and friction, right?
Thanks!

The impreza ej20g one fits fine. Im on my phone and cannot see whether the links are for turbo or non. If they are for non turbo they are not a direct fit.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
I believe any turbo 5speed clutch from 93-07 GC/GD should work. 6speed clutch will not with out modifications.
The link for the clutch looks correct.
The link for the flywheel is for a 6speed. Pick a 5speed. Turbo.
Different brand clutch from flywheel should be fine as long as the kit doesn't use a specially mated flywheel i. e. Exedy hyper single. In most cases you can only buy those kits with the special flywheel included as a package.
Be sure you pick turbo specific. Subaru uses two different styles, push or pull depending on turbo vs. N/A.

Yes it's turbo all of them and thank "DankBerries".. I didn't notice that it was for a 6. Speed! Well they have a complete kit from Exedy with clutch and flywheel, so I'll go with that.. http://scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/produc ... pch6dvd436 This one haha

But what's the thoughts on Organic clutches vs Carbon Kevlar? There's a cheaper kit from Competition racing something on the website and it comes with the alignment tool and clutch bearing whils't the other doesen't.. Exedy vs competition stage 2?

To my understanding Carbon Kevlar is a stronger material and usually found in clutch kits that have much higher than stock OEM ratings.Mpgingerson wrote:But what's the thoughts on Organic clutches vs Carbon Kevlar? Organic is typically found in OEM replacement kits that have equivalent or slightly more clamping force than stock.
Exedy is the premiere clutch company. Strong and reliable. Offering great products and customer service. Subaru uses exedy in many of their cars from factory.
Competition Clutch - I having nothing bad to say, they are a newer company and tend to offer cheaper pricing than some of the leading brands. I'm not sure I would put their quality at the same standard as
Exedy but i also dont have as much experience with them as exedy or ACT.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
i've always gone with Exedy, and always gone with 02-05 WRX 2.0 fitment (on my 22T and 20G) with a LW Flywheel to match. Last setup was a Exedy Stage 1 HD clutch and Competition Clutch LW Flywheel. It was awesome compared to stock.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
But does the 93-2001 differ from the newer 02-05? But I think I'll go with a full Exedy kit from the reviews I've read, but yeah.. From my previous car to my Leg the revs are sooooooooooo slow.. And I never thought of the reason why, until now haha.. So maybe it was a good thing the clutch failed? :O

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
There is a different part number between the gc8 turbo clutchs and the 02-05 gd turbo clutch kits. I think the key is to get a flywheel and clutch kit for the same application.
I weighed and measured the flywheel and clutches from a stock setup ej22t and ej205, and the 22t not only had a lighter flywheel but also a slightly larger contact patch.
If you're going all aftermarket then it doesnt matter.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
Clutches from like a 2.5RS Impreza are going to be different than Legacy 90-94 or WRX 02-05 because 25RS is a push type clutch while ours and most others are pull type clutch. Also the clutch disk's vary in size, same with pressure plate.

As far as pulleys anything for an EJ series motor will work.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
If you go LW crank pulley tho, you shouldn't have a LW Flywheel. It will cause issues. So pick one!

Oh? Why? :O I've seen many people with LW pulley and Flywheel mix.robertpaige wrote:If you go LW crank pulley tho, you shouldn't have a LW Flywheel. It will cause issues. So pick one!

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
Engine will pretty much die at almost all stop lights because there isn't enough inertia to keep the crank rotating. Essentially idle will drop too fast to 200 rpm or so and just cut off.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
Yeah, having both removes balance in the engine. It will run but it will have adverse effects on the motor. Just stick to one or the other.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
You can find a happy medium if you want to get both. You can find a not so light flywheel and a lw crank pulley.

The lightened flywheel makes the biggest difference by a long ways.

Re: Turbo Impreza clutch on turbo Legacy? (fitment)
Honestly, the LW flywheel/pulley is a bit of a preference as well.
I've driven with LW pullies, LW flywheel & pulley, and LW flywheel, as well as stock. For the type of driving and frequency I drive my car around town I honestly prefer stock. This preference also comes with the caveat that the stock setup becomes more desirable (at least for me) with the more power I made. The LW components did provide some quicker revs when I wasn't make as much power, but even with the stock components now the engine revs faster than the tachometer can read in first gear, which can cause me to bounce of the rev limiter. I think this may also be due to the particular tach I have in the car, as I don't think the 6.5k redline tach responded as slow.
I would agree though that if you run LW flywheel, run the stock pulley.
