I hit 1.20bar tonight for a couple run ins with a spec-v. The funny thing is, A/F was still in the rich side. I'm wondering two things:

1. the increased power from the alternator is possibly making my injectors work a little better . . .
2. It was really misty out tonight, plus it wasn't as cold as it's been for a while now. Could this contribute to less o2 actually getting into the engine?

Turned down the boost anyway, just to be sure . . . but the car ran REALLY STRONG . . . :?:

I'd hope he could "run well with" a spec-v. I mean, c'mon  .

Lemme just tell you this before I go to bed tonight . . .

Coming home from a night at the clubs, I was dropping off my sister at her house . . . notice a set of HIDs behind me and decide to give it a go. I accelerate away from the car and then slow down. I'm talking to my sister when the car flies by me . . . As I accelerate up to catch him I notice twin exhausts on the back immediately followed by my noticing the letter and number combination . . . . M3 . . . yes, my friends, an e46 M3.

I pull up next to him and give him a thumbs up. I guess he thought I wanted to race because he took off after that. I'm in third gear, 65-70mph, about 4000-ish rpm (well out of my optimal starting rpm). He pulls on me through third, I shift to fourth and what do you know . . . HE STOPS PULLING ON ME!!!

I pull up next to me and my sister yells out the window, "we love your car!!" The guy in the car yells back, "your car's f---in fast!! What kinda turbo you have in that thing?!?!?!" I yell back, "a 16G!!" He replies with, "no wonder!!"

He gestures to me to accelerate while he just watches . . . I do so and then he catches up to me . . . when he catches up we're both shaking our heads in astonishment!!

Now do you need me to tell you the outcome of the spec-v encounter?

BTW, looked at the peak boost I hit . . . 1.13bar (I turned it down from last night so the max is 1.15bar).

Did I tell you guys I love this car?

What kind a turbo booster control you are using?
I using AVC-R and some how it away go over my setting boost, I have 2 settings: one is 1.0kg/cm2, and the other one is 1.05kg/cm2, I have an J-spec EJ20G (1st gen Legacy turbo engine).
Does anyone has the same unit and could you shows your setting in here?
Thanks for the help!

I'm actually running a Joe-P MBC . . . don't have the money for that expensive AVC-R, although it is the best boost controller out there!!

Don't worry, I think everyone has problems keeping the boost leveled out at anything close to 1.1bar. I think the wastegate has problems regulating boost at that pressure. I think it's a function of the dp as well (non-bellmouth). I have an HKS unit, which is like the stock unit, only larger and without a cat.

At any given time, my peak boost can fluctuate between 1.09 and 1.15. Yes, that's a huge margin, but I've tested my system to 1.20, so I guess it's somewhat safe

DLC has an AVC-R, so you might want to talk to him about setting the boost controller.

man, if you can run with a e46 M3, I don't think there's anything to complain about :D .

I'm going to be trying the BoostMonkey as soon as I can get the guy to test one out on my car to get the settings right. I'm jsut running a bleed valve right now. Until I'm intercooled I'm not going to be running nmuch boost so the bleed valve will be ok for now. It keeps the boost very level. I'm only running 0.7 bar. all I have right now is a straight pipe and this thing is already pulling a lot more than I expect. once I get her intercooled I can really start the fun. Did I mention I love this car :D ?

THanks IggDawg!! Yeah, I can hang with an m3, but only after a certain point . . . Hehe, just have to be higher in the powerband, I guess.

I'm just starting to notice the lag associated with this turbo now that I'm upping the boost. It's not that the car's necessarily any slower lower in the powerband, but it's just alot faster higher in the rpm range. I'll hit redline and feel like there's more potential to be had by keeping it in the gear just a little longer . . .

Josh, you need a turbo . . .

Have you ever thought about sourcing a turbokit out of junkyard parts? Are there any u-pull-it yards nearby? There's always the bottle too. On the fwd models I can't see you needing too much extra power to be up there with the big dawgs . . . doesn't your car weigh as much as a GC8 RS? With the lack of AWD drivetrain loss, you'd have an advantage at highway speeds . . .

IggDawg, I started a new thread about upping the redline. You and Josh can post any thoughts on this . . .

My car weighs around 3100-3200 lbs with full tank of gas and me in it.

So weight wise I have an advantage......plus I like my gearing for highway.....taller gears.

I was going to do a turbo kit.....but after looking at it more closely......I'm just going to buy a turbo legacy......easier solution in my opinion........plus I would have two cars ;)

I just got to wait a little bit. I would like to buy my friends 94 turbo sedan.....and he is interested in upgrading to something else later in the year.......so I'm still thinking that route......I just don't know when exactly he's selling....plus I need different living situation first.....

I'm an extremely patient mofo......I can wait for things I want.....:)

So in the hopefully not so distant future....I'll have a turbo :D
