I,ve been test fitting a water/air intercooler into my 91' and
recently checked my codes just for the heck of it and it told me
23,32,13 if I remember correctly. I looked them up in my book and it
says that my problem is with my O2 sensor, mass-airflow sensor, and
knok sensor. Has anyone run into these three codes at once before?,
or know of something that might trigger all of them? And can anyone
explain to me were the knok sensor is located, and can I reach it
without removing the intake manifold?

Thanks
Ian

Yes. The power feels weak. when I push down on the gas it surges. Sometimes
my boost guage needle wobbles apon acceleration. It almost feels like the
car goes faster when I start to lift my foot off the gas alittle. It really
feels like the car hits a wall durring acceleration yet it tries to go
beyond it. And my boost guage only reads 6.8psi to 7psi.

what does it mean?

Intake manifold leak. My dealer couldnt figure it out, he wanted to replace
all of those parts. pretty easy (kinda) job to do. Parts are about $10. you
need to get 2 intake gaskets. unbolt the intake runners (if you are lucky
you only need to remove the bolts on the runners) carefully lift up the
runners pull out the old gasket, put in the new one and rebolt it all
together. Doing it this way, you only get .5 inch clearance between the
manifold and cylinder head but you dont need anymore then that.

IF the gasket sticks and breaks apart, you have to tale all kinds of things
off so you can get a scraper onto the cylinder head and intake manifold.
you need to have clean surfaces for the gasket to work perfectly.

To test that this is in fact the problem, do this:
While the engine is running, open your hood and spray a fine mist of water
(squirt bottle) into the area where the mainfold meats the cylinder head.
If the car starts to almost stall, you have your problem. Check both sides...

It sounds like your boost solenoid isn't working at all.

5.5-6.5PSI is where the wastegate will naturally open. Usually
the stock boost is about 9PSI.

Check all of the connections to the solenoid by the passenger
side strut tower. I highly recommend upgrading to at least a
manual boost controller to replace the stock version anyway.

Hallman makes a very good one, and there are a dozen others
available for less than $100.

Try connecting to to only a WOT switch, see how that goes.

what does "WOT" stand for wide open throttle? How would I wire that, and for
what? Boost? Turbo systems are new to me.

Post by jason grahn »

that would be something like a switch that is on your floor under your gas
pedal. Only at full accelleration (wide open throttle: WOT) would that
switch be activated. You could use that to wire NOS or a scramble switch to
turn up your boost, or an intercooler sprayer, or whatever you need it
for... =)

thanks for the suggestion but I would like to get it all in propper
working order befor I turn up the boost or add NOS. But I will most
likelly try a manual or electric boost controller.
