Oil Cooling in EJ22T

Post by William D. Robinson »

The EJ22T and all other closed deck turbo engines came with a special head design that served as a heat exchanger between the oil and the coolant.

The turbo cars came with a bigger radiator than the non-turbo cars. There is no substitute for a freshly rodded-out radiator. Have you tried Water Wetter? Water Wetter makes water more efficient at picking up heat by eliminating the surface layer of tiny bubbles (such as those you see on the surface of a heating kettle of water) My best guess is that it adds about 10% to cooling capacity for about five bucks and thirty seconds of effort.

It would be nice to know if the oil is overheating, by using an oil temp gauge. The sources from which to tap an oil cooler would be at the sending unit and at the filter. The line going to the turbo is back by the firewall and probably not practical.
