Home Boost Control + Air/Fuel Control + FCD.
Hi!
i finally put a hand on a board drawing for a Boost Controler + Air fuel controler + FCD.
This is a plan made by frenchies and was installed on Impreza WRX, GT and STI from 96 to 02 and even on some old Legacy. and proven to work !
The boost Controler was used on the STI to up to 1.43bar. (max 1.6bar - 23.3psi)
The air-Fuel Ratio Controler is divided in 8 steps, 900rpm per steps.
The boost trigs from a certain pedal position. bellow that, no boost. (like, 50% trottle = boost)
Nyway, this looks very good, i'll seek for some price on making this board, and see if it's good or not.
I wanted to know if any of you could be interested into this thing if i make some more ? (building 1 board could be expensive compared to building 5-10 ! )

i said something wrong ...
if you set the ramp at 6psi, and constant boost to 10psi, then the control goes quick to 6psi then goes slower with "asservissement" up to 10psi.
The idea is to eliminate boost spiking... but they say that, set those 2 close and it will work great (ramp 10.8psi and constant 11psi for example).
With the last version of that PCB, there is a "Scramble boost" features that raises the boost level for 5 sec, each time you WOT. (it's triged when throttle is 100% open, then timeout after 5 sec).
is bad. in fact, there is a "Ramp-Up" and a "constant boost" setting. The boost trigs from a certain pedal position. bellow that, no boost. (like, 50% trottle = boost)

Ok, so after a 2 weeks pause, (school works...
), the project will now begin it's "Prototyping" phase.
i'll send the plans to the "printer" tomorrow, and tonight i'll go buy the parts to make the first copy of it. I'll make my hand on soldering a little 16-led display board. Got to begin somewhere
hehe
let the fun begins ! hehe
I'll keep you informed on how things go.

what about the rest of the setup, the mechanical aspect of it such as valves and all that?
the companies that make these sort have things have done a lot of testing to optomize performance. Is your design based on the designs of these? It sounds like an awesome idea but i would actually tend to lean towards buying tryed and trued equipment. I dont mean to get you down, what you are doing now is starting a business of sorts, which could possibly turn into a larger thing. very cool.

so i'm still working on it... some parts here don't exactly fit the french desing : The small potentiometers ! so had to find a solution..
I'm still waiting for some parts .. :\
HiRez : http://images2.fotki.com/v20/photos/1/1 ... img-or.jpg

The 3 yellow wires on the left are attached to a db9 connector, were the Boost Control potentiometer will be connected. This pot can be located anywhere in the car.
the other wires are attached to a db15 connector, and i will build a "Bypass" connector to allow to remove the module and return to factory installations without having to disconnect and reconnect everything.
Well .. can't wait ! hehe

Wow.... turning pots to adjust boost.... This is going to remind me of my old Sabb 900 turbo days
. In the ECU, there was one pot for max boost, another for how quick boost builds, and one that controlled knock sensor sensitivity. only the really hardcore guys would touch that last one. any time you wanted more power, just pull out the APC unit (the ECU essentially) which was right in the engine bay, and turn a couple pots. BAM! mroe boost.

hehe seems that it's still the way to do !
I'm now pretty close to the end ! but still need 1 chip and 1 transistor (they ordered the wrong chip :\ )
HiRez : http://images2.fotki.com/v20/photos/1/1 ... img-or.jpg

Update : I've finaly found small pots. ! looks nicer with the blue ones... 5k pots were BO so had to keep the 4 ones sticking out .
Last chip is due to arrive Thursday. so prolly this weekend i'll plug this in the car...
Finally !

morgie, will this thing just plug right into our ecu? no splicing?
oh and you said, every 900 rpms fuel tuning, wouldn't it be every 750 rpms. 0-6500 rpm minus ~500 idle equals approx. 6000. 6000/8 = 750.
anyway, i am looking forward to seeing what happens. hopefully your ecu won't catch fire!

there is some Splicing and Cutting to do on the ecu plug :\
You have to cut the Pressure Sensor Wire, the MAF wire, the solenoid wire.
You have to splice the Throttle Position Wire, a +12v wire, a ground, and the RPM wire.
that's all.
This board was designed by and for french Subarus, Impreza GT & WRX & STi, max RPM 7200rpm .
7200rpm / 2 = 3600, 3600 / 4 (or 7200 /
= 900rpm.
On the board, there is a setup to do at 3600rpm, to find the mid-range. i presume that if we do the setup for 3300rpm, we can lower the 900rpm to
850rpm..

That's where i stopped last week-end
HiReZ : http://images2.fotki.com/v23/photos/1/1 ... img-or.jpg

Then in test-driving it, i had some problems, CE lights code 44-45, Fuel Cut at 0.1psi .. etc... i was needing more info about the wires and stuff... wich i now have, but it was raining all week so i couldn't continue...
this week-end is supposed to be sunny... i cross my fingers

So if you got this from a guy in France...will it work with our N. Amer. Legacy Turbos? EJ22T instead of EJ20's? Of course, I'm running a EJ20T, but with stock legacy turbo engine controls, but if it will work with them, I'm interested!
Thanks
Micum

it's supposed to work on that yes. if i succed
the sensors seems to have all the same specs, it's just the ECU pinout that change. :\
This afternoon i was feeling bad at work, so i called a "sick-day" and invested that time trying to install that controller... again ..... and i didn't succed...
So, tired of being stuck at the "Where's that MAP signal wire" point,... i decided to go at my dealer and look in the manuals to find the exact info on the MAP.
And i found IT ! YEAH ! (but it's still not installer in the car.. hehe)
The MAP has 3 wires : 1 White - 1 Red - 1 Black. being a newbie, i tought that the red was +5v, black ground, white signal. (that's should be the logik sequence). But i was wrong... I had +5v on the white, 0v on the red. ??!! ... in fact here is the correct pinout : White : +5v feed, Red : GROUND, Black : Signal
sheesshh
that should help me install the module ! the weather forecasts are good for all the week and the weekend, so i'll sure have plently of time to retry the installation ...
