Fiberglass Updates.. *NEW* INFO*

I JUST got off the phone with Biff Hayes of A.B.E. Fiberglass..

He's the guy who will be makeing the parts,,and knows more about fiberglass than i will ever know..

News Bits..

Ok i have answers for some of you about questions you asked..

1.WILL IT MELT from the heat of my engine and really big turbo? NO!!! this is the same fiberglass that is used on several DRAG cars that he does work for.. and it with stands way hotter temps than your averge steet or rally car can put out.. But do not but a blow torch to it.. or pour gasoline on it.. it will BURN rather well.. He sugests glueing Asbestos pads (that brown stuff on the hood on 80's cars you ripped off cause most of it was hanging down anyways) to your worry areas like over the turbo area..if your that worried.

2. Will it crack at the mounts..? NO.. it will not fly off at high speeds or off road.. everything will use the stock mounts.. even the hood release will be stock. He does recomend though that for heavy offroad use you install hood pins. JUST FOR IN CASE... he says these hoods will be light.. and if they do manage pop the hood latch.. they won't be heavy like the stock hood thay tend to catch air very fast..//

3. How strong will these be? DON"T SIT ON THE HOOD!!!!.. he said it might take it once or twice but even then your pushing it..don't put more than 100 pounds on the hood unless you like it in peices.

4 will the bumper Skin mount "bolt on": YES sorta.. ok the way it's made is as follows.. they take the RS Skin and MAKE it fit my 91 Subaru Legacy LS, thats by adding mounts and or removeing mounts already there to fit my bumper. SO when they make the skin it will bolt directly up to a 91 subar Legacy..

Now.. if you own a 92-94.. i don't know.. literally i don't know.. if any of you who OWN a 92-94 wanna come down here (Allentown,PA) and let us guinne pig up you car feel free and we'll make sure.. or can someone with subaru manuals or diagrams see if the bumper assembly is the same or realitvely the same thru all four years?

This has to pertain to the hood.. OK the hood.. he says that will be
the easiest peice.. BUT!!! yes a big BUT!!! The scoop is easy to do..
but the vent's are trickey.. and depending on general consensious we
will go one of 2 ways..

See the fiberglass will not be able to do all those little grill
holes that the vents have.. so there are 2 trains of thought that
we'll need a vote on.. and i'll put up a poll in a second about it..k

1st we leave very weak areas of the hood were the vents are to be
places on the underside of the hood.. the top of the hood you won't
even know their there. when ever you decide to install rs vents you
cut the holes your self "he said "it could be done with an exzacto
knife but recomends a dremel."
And you install the vents as you would an rs..

or

2nd we install the vents and cut out the grill work.. leaving 4 holes
in the hood and you add the grill anytime you want with whatever
material you want be it rs grill material or metal color anodised
chicken wire they sell at import shops..
