I'm seriously thinking about getting the "RS coil pack" for my Legacy Turbo.
My question is if I don't use a MSD unit along with the RS coil pack (as
Rod suggested) would I still be able to feel a performance improvment over my
stock coil pack or would it just be a waste of money? I've increased my boost
to 12psi so I was thinking it might help to have some extra spark. I don't
plan on spending the $$'s on a MSD unit so this is why I'm asking about the
coilpack upgrade by itself.
Thanks guys
Fred

Fred-The best example of using a late RS coil can be found in Brian`s 600+ hp
Impreza; he uses it along with an MSD unit for maximum spark. Try his website
@ www.bspec-usa.com & check out the pictures/info. Based on that, I added the
late coil, 8mm NGK wires + the new MSD #6212. I had the #6211 when my motor
was NA, but now I need a boost timing master + a boost sensor option, hence
the MSD upgrade. It`s a fool-proof way to insure more spark. Enjoy---ROD (AZ.)

I am 99.9% sure that this is what the spark plug wires plug into on the top
of
our flat engines. Is this correct? My understanding is that the coil pack
on
the RS provides 15% more spark than our stock coil pack. Has anyone put an
RS
coil pack on their Legacy Turbo? Do you notice the difference? My coil pack
is working fine as far as I know I'm just interested in the performance gains
by doing this upgrade. And are all of the RS coil packs equal from '98 to
'01
and is it the same as the coil pack on the WRX?

Fred,
You won't feel any difference. The stock coil unit for the RS's is able to deliver more power to the plugs and so forth. However if there is no more juice to deliver, it's going to deliver what the stock ignition system puts out. It's sorta catch22, you need both things for it to work.

RS Coil P
Just to add to what Josh said.
RS/"Diamond" + MSD DIS2 = more power, better economy and smoother
all around driving.
