whats next to replace?

Post by Nissan-Subaru »

After new

Plugs

Wires

02 sensors

Multiple ecu resets (it still stores an 02 code after replace… I even left it unplugged for 24 hours)

UR pulley

Change in driving habits (drive like a grandma now)

K&N panel Filter

I’m still getting 13-15mpg no matter how or where I drive… This is the same thing I got before I did the above.

It also seems like it’s still unable to put all the power to the ground sometimes…

Its also boosting steady at 8 ½

What’s next to replace?

Thanks

John

Post by Josh Colombo »

When you say 02 code, I'm assuming you're getting a code 32 correct?

What I would do is test the voltage coming out of the 02 sensor. Compare that to what it should be, if it is good, you have problems in the wiring harness or some where later down the line in the wiring loom, which is not a fun thing to track down. This is most likely why you are seeing such poor mileage and crappy boost. You need to get that 02 sensor or wiring fixed, and that should fix your problems. The computer sees that the 02 is messed up and is adjusting everything else accordingly.

i'm pretty sure it should be a steady signal of about .1-.2 volts on
a cold engine and a varied signal of .1-.9 on an engine that is up to
normal temp(in closed loop). if it doesn't reach closed loop(i.e.
the fluctuation) it's shot. hope that helps.

Post by mike p. »

well, to the best of my knowledge, yeah to test the sensor you need
to have the car running and take the readings while it warms up
(should read a steady .1-.2 volts) and when the sensor hits it's
operating temp(fluctuates between .1 and .9) but that's like 600
degrees or something so it gets really hot and can melt your wires to
the voltmeter if you're not careful. also you need to probe the
signal wire which may be a bit difficult without a schematic or
something. the sensor has 4 wire terminals correct? well it's one
of those. i guess you could try em and see which registers. you'd
have to have the + on the signal wire and the - of the voltmeter on
the ground wire of the sensor. if you get a wire with high voltage
(+12volts) that's not it, if you get one with 0 volts, that's the
ground, if you get one with .2.6 volts or something near that, that's
the signal wire. you should be able to put the probe down into the
back of the connector so it touches the terminal, if you can follow
the wiring up away from the sensor itself you could probably probe
there to and eliminate the worries of melting your gear but you'd
probably have to bear a bit of wire in order to probe unless you can
find another connector. well, my brains fried now so i hope that
helps, any other questions post em and i'll try to answer.

whats next to replace?

Post by Josh Colombo »

The 02 sensors are 3 wire. Positive, negative, and the sensor wire.

I wasn't able to find any specs on voltage in the chilton's manual.

The voltage swings back and forth from about .1 volt to 1 volt We
had a car that had a complaint of poor milage and low power and it had
a strange code of some sort. It ran smooth and fairly well and it
really gave us a problem. It turned out to be the coil!! This engine
runs real well one two cyl.!! That is a rare one but it would drive
the O2 sensor nuts or maybe the ECU ???

Hi-you have a coil in the center of the intake manifold just below the throttle body. It`s the item where your 4 plug wires exit. If you have over 125k on the motor, it probably would`nt hurt to replace it for maintenance. Just ask for the LATE RS coil at the dealership.---ROD (AZ.)

You have a coil mounted on top of the engine four spark plug wires
come out of it. The coil is just a guess the one we worked on really
ran smooth but was down on power. I was getting a bit desparate and
was removing the coil to swap it out and found a large burned crack in
bottom of one of the coils.
