dog-box???

Dogbox is referring to the Gear type. You will hear the term dogboxed gearset thrown around by people with High HP engines. Most transmissions have helical gears, they are slanted or turned sideways, the reason is that they mesh easier and are alot quieter, do to the fact you have gradual surface area of the gears mating, rather then with straight cut gears the mating surface mates all at one time, and is noisier. Like I said with the straight cut, ie dog boxed gears, the mating surface mates all at once, so the teeth can take more force on them. Downside, they are noisey, and usually require double clutching when shifting.....or so I've been told. A usual thing is to go with straight cut gears for 1st and 2nd and helical gears for the rest, cause torque wouldn't be as much.

Check our www.mrtrally.com and look up their "unbreakable gear set". I
dont believe you need to clutch at all except when starting.

Depends on how you change gears if you match engine revs then you
don't even need to use the clutch.

When you say match engine revs, you mean match speed and revs, or just
get it so there is no pressure on the gears?

So the engine speed is the same as the gearbox speed during the
change.
