If I were a Texan, I would be all hat and no cattle. I put the fuel pump in last summer, and although I have an AVCR, but I have been running stock boost for months because I have an annoying whistle/shreik somewhere in my intercooler plumbing. Today I am taking my collection of cloth and leather Legacy seats to the basement of my office so that I can clear a big enough spot in my garage to play with the intercooler pipes. The 4/1 rising rate fuel pressure regulator is attached to the WRX intercooler as it has never been hooked up. Do as I say, not as I actually do. Someday when I get my garage cleared, I will fix the whistle, mount the intercooler, hook up the FPR, hook the AVC-R back up and see how it likes boost in the range of 13-14psi.
One thing that I actually did do and feel okay about is the mounting of the fancy blue display on my AVC-R. I have a Jenson AM/FM CD/MP3 with no cassette, so it just takes up one slot in the dash. I flipped the mini glovebox that plugs the hole when you have no CD and drilled a hole in the back. My AVC-R display is normally out of sight, but when I want to view it or show it off, I just flip down the little door (that used to flip up) and set the display on the open lid, angled up. I lined the inside of the box and lid with black bumpy rubber no-skid (as used in toolboxes) and placed a piece of gray foam rubber behind the display so that it can't disappear deep inside when not in use. For a slob like me, it is a pretty sanitary installation. If I get ambitious I may install a switch for going back and forth from monitoring RPM to monitoring injector duty cycle. On a similar note, as I don't smoke, I lined my ashtray with no-skid, tossed out the little tin flip-up heat shield and it is now a perfect place to hide my Valentine One radar detector. Please note that this only works with the latest generation V1, as the earlier model is too thick.
