Does anyone know what manufacture we can contact for a
Intercooler group buy?
Or if the price of a brand new intercooler is
extremely high what vehicles are you guys getting your
intercoolers from? Saabs, wrx, eclipse?

No one makes a bolt-on intercooler for the US Legacy, not a
single company. There are several reasons for this, not the
least of which is that our turbo outlet is slightly smaller and ad a
different angle than the EJ20.
Some people have put on the slanted WRX/STi ones, some
have installed the A/W Legacy RS ones, but they all require a
good amount of custom work to go on. The A/W that Subysports
makes for the WRX basically bolts on, but requires at $200 pipe
to be custom made because our intake manifold extends farther
towards the firewall.
Summary: No bolt-ons.
I have seen several cars using Saab 900 aluminum A/A
intercoolers on this engine, not the least of which is Paul
Eklund's USX Impreza. If it works for him, it damned well will
work for us. Custom work is of course necessary, but the
intercooler itself is smaller and will fit in better, without all of the
shuffling and stuffing required for the OE JDM ones. I am most
interested in this option, myself.
I've heard that the Turbo Sprint intercooler is small enough to fit,
but those are very few and far between.
A DSM side-mount might be adapted to work, but i've never seen
any Legacy or Impreza do it top-mount, though i have seen one
guy with an RS-T use it side-mount.
If we can create a kit that would easily mount the Saab
aluminum intercooler, i'm sure it would be worth it. I can get one
of these from one of two sources and look at what is needed.
Also, the 900 Turbo is one of the most common turbocharged
cars i can think of, so finding one shouldn't be to hard, just look
on eBay.
Al also mentioned that he might have the ability to develop a
short run of these. I am willing to test this setup and pay a
decent premium for something that will bolt right on. If you can
possibly do this Al, please do!

Paul doesn't use that intercooler anymore. What a b!tch that thing was to
get in there. I'd suggest something else. putting customer end tanks on a
DSM intercooler would be better.

IC groups buy question
Here's the steps i took. I planned on getting a spearco intercooler
custom made. I was looking at the front mount type. I was going to
custom do all the piping and such, but got thinking how expensive and
what a pain it would be. Then i planned ordering an MRT top mount
for the WRX and using that. Until one day surfing on ebay i found an
air/water unit from the overseas liberty. I managed to snag it for
like $250. It's on its way over here right now, and when i install
it (most likely the weekend after next) i'll be sure to take pictures
and write an explanation to the difficulties i encountered. I chose
this system because i'm actually a big fan of air/water systems, they
can be customized and upgraded to offer some extreme performance.
Anyway, good luck with your endevour.

Some of us have gone this route including myself and there are a few
difficulties involved but it will make a nice installation when you
are done. One thing you will need is a different water expansion tank
that is custom made and we might just have one left. I had a larger
and longer BOV port welded to my IC and a coupling will have to be
obtained because of the different angle that the discharge port is at.

IC groups buy question
Just so you know its not a strait bolt up you will need to make an adaptor
if it comes with the hose from the turbo to the intercooler. if not then you
need to make one or finda stock piece(good luck). You also need to relocate
the coolant tank with out breaking any of the nipples. I think it will take
you a little longer than a weekend. I have a hole setup myself. Sorry for
the bad news, but you may have known all this already if so sorry for
rambling.
