My PC has a Pentium II-350 with 196 Meg of pc-100 ram. Is that enough for 2000 (the tech guys here at work are telling me it is) or should I definitely go with 98SE?vrg3 wrote:You could try it... Many install discs can also be used as upgrades. If this one can't, it should just tell you so and quit.
But you might not want to put Windows 2000 on this computer... It's not a very high-powered machine, right? 2000 is a lot harder on a machine than 98.
Want me to mail you a 98 SE disc?
Thanks, it is pretty nice.BAC5.2 wrote:I can't wait to get the pics! That camera is the sweetest digi-cam I've ever seen!

I do have two HD's (ones full, ones empty) but I don't really want to go through all that and I'm woirried about loosing stuff. I have a lot of pictures of my kids as babies and stuff that I'm just not willing to chanvce losing.scottzg wrote:If you go into windows and take all your prized software out of the windows directory and put it somewhere else, and then boot into dos and delete c:windows, you can use that disk. Otherwise, you probably cant. The advantage of doing it this way is that if you have some funky driver related stuff going on, this will wipe it. You can then go and stick your files back where they belong.
However, i don't reccomend this route if you're not fairly handy with a computer; having all your stuff trapped on a hd that won't boot can be scary. If you have a partition installed on the computer (d: is another hd location), you can just hit delete when the computer is first booting, change where it boots from to be D: and pop the disk in and have a dual boot. This might be a bit easier, and you just have to change the boot location to C again to have your old os back. I too have a copy of win98se upgrade that id be happy to send your way.
That'd work for the short term but I tend to take a lot of pics and I can't do that everytime I need to upload my pics.Or, if the computer works, dont mess with it and dl your pics to someone else's computer. Messing with said files can be stressful.
Hehehe. I stopped playing PC games because my computer wouldn't keep up and I have so many other gaming platforms. Pretty much I just use the PC for pics and internet.-K- wrote:And I thought this place was full of nerds.
No self respecting nerd would still be on win98.![]()
I would get someone with better than win98 to download the pictures and just burn you a copy to disc. If you have a CD-R drive.
Yeah I know....what I have on my server is the complete cd ISO.vrg3 wrote:Josh - 98SE doesn't have to be that big if you don't include extras. My copy's about 125 megs.
