the throtle down hills the engine started making a
tapping noise!!! If

revved the engine it would go away. I pulled in
straight away and
checked
the way and checked the oil level, which was fine. So
I drove home very
slowly and could keep hearing the tapping noise coming
and going as I
drove!!! I have now changed the oil filter and oil
aswell but the noise
seems to be getting worse and worse!! what can I do Is
my engine
damaged
some how ???
please help me I'm desperate there is no way I can
survive without my
car
and a second hand engine is going to cost more then I
can ever afford
(£1000)
I am waiting at my PC for you replys

As Dan mentioned too, I'm pretty sure it's an oil pump.
As for testing pressure. Go to your local auto parts store. See if they have a little pod gage or something like that for oil pressure. They usually come in a kit, with the lines, and tell how to hook it up. I have helped a friend do this on a big V8, but not any subarus. I'm not sure if the procedure is the same, but that is the only way I know how you could actually get a reading of the oil pressure. Other option, take it to a shop, and tell them you need to know what the oil pressure is.

Come on how about some help here???
Try Sea Foam, or Marvel Mystery. Those are the only
"snake oil" like products that I know of that's
supposed to clean out the inside of the engine. They
basically have petroleum distillates in them.
