Bench racing - optimum CR for Turbo

Post by Rabin James »

Hi all,

I am on another list (Peugeot), and we are currently discussing the ideal
engine rebuild specs for the 2.2 L inline-4 in the 505 Turbo.

Since the Turbo Legacy is also a 2.2 L, it got me to thinking that it would
be neat to compare an inline 4 against the boxer 4 in terms of ideal engine
build spec.

Particular interst to me would be what your choice would be for the CR. The
one site had a guy totally rebuild the Suby 2.2 T with custom JE 9 :1
pistons for his plane...any thoughts on the pros and cons of running a high
compression high boost (13 psi) motor?

Is that an ideal or would you go low compression very high boost (15+ psi)?
I know peak power is higher with the latter, but what about driveability?

I'm after your thoughts on the ultimate Rally/autocross/daily drive engine
build up WITHOUT having to conform to ANY sanctioning body rules...this is
just the 'build the best' kind of thing. To make it interesting - let's
but a $6000 US cap on the modifications - parts only!

I know people that run 9.0:1 on 20+psi on 2.0 engines... Gives better
off boost response
